  • Patent number: 4155291
Abstract: An automatic coffee brewing machine is provided with a heater for heating the pump apparatus for forcing water therethrough, thermostatic switch means associated with the pump apparatus for sensing the completion of the brewing cycle, and circuit means including the switch means effective upon completion of the brewing cycle for changing the power output of the heater from the high level required for brewing operation to a much lower level required to prevent reinitiation of the brewing cycle. A heating unit for a carafe holding brewed coffee has heating means associated with the circuit means for producing heat both during and after the brewing cycle, the heat produced during the brewing cycle being greater than that produced after the brewing cycle.

  • Patent number: 4150607
Abstract: In a conventional plastic drip coffeemaker, an improvement is provided for mounting the hot water generator comprising a single plastic molded box-shaped housing having an access opening only at one end and the other end and side walls being integrally formed. Spaced ribs are molded on and extend along a side wall towards the opening and terminate inside of the opening. A molded-in boss for securement is provided on the opposite side wall and a U-shaped channel member crosses the access opening with its legs directed inwardly of the housing to straddle in fixed abutment against the ribs at one edge and fixed to the boss at the opposite edge. The hot water generator is secured to the channel inside the opening so that the generator is fixed against all lateral movement by the straddling channel and against movement into the opening by abutment against the ribs.

  • Patent number: 4149454
Abstract: A drip coffeemaker basket and filter assembly is provided comprising a cup-shaped basket supporting a matching water permeable filter and the basket is generally funnel-shaped with a substantially flat bottom wall of spaced supporting means defining a fixed opening water passage where the supporting means may be spaced radiating ribs. A second adjacent and larger cross-section supporting shelf is spaced above the bottom wall and supports the filter thereon. A convex curved surface connects the shelf and the supporting means whereby the filter seals on the convex surface inversely to the coffee quantity in the filter and automatically varies the effect of filtering area directly with the coffee quantity in the filter providing a single molded unit with non-movable or replaceable parts that automatically adjusts itself for larger and smaller quantities for the correct brew.

  • Patent number: 4142840
Abstract: A generally C-shaped coffeemaker housing holds a heated carafe on one horizontal leg and a water spreader on the other with the vertical leg enclosing an accessible water reservoir having an apertured bottom wall. The housing has a pump and heated chamber in the bottom for delivering heated water to the spreader and a tubular outer conduit connecting the reservoir and chamber with a concentric spaced inner conduit between the chamber and reservoir interior. An integral one way valve is provided on the inner conduit between the conduits and the chamber permitting cold water into the chamber through the outer conduit and hot water exit through the inner conduit.

  • Patent number: 4081659
Abstract: An electric coffeemaker with a plastic housing and a bottom cover wherein a partition is formed with the housing for enclosing an electrical cord strain relief knot, and two fingers are integrally formed with the bottom cover for uniquely cooperating with a side wall of the housing and the strain relief knot. In the event of any strain on the cord tending to pull it out of the housing, the knot will abut the two fingers to distribute the force between both the housing and the two fingers of the bottom cover.

  • Patent number: 4069750
Abstract: An electric brewing apparatus for coffee and similar beverages having a heated base supporting a receptacle and a coffee basket therebetween to store, heat, and deliver water to the basket. In this general arrangement an improvement is provided wherein the base comprises a single molded polypropylene box-shaped housing having an access opening only at one end with the other end and side walls being integrally formed from the plastic. A first set of bosses is provided on the other end spaced from one of the side walls and a standard timer that has spaced mounting ears for securing on a flat inner side wall for adjustment through the wall is provided. Second bosses are mounted on the side wall adjacent the open end and all of the bosses are directed towards and molded from the open access end.
