Publication number: 20230420898Abstract: A splice device is provided that includes a main housing, a first set of jaws, and a movement conversion assembly. The first set of jaws is in the main housing and depend outward along a conductor axis. The first set of jaws receive a first electrical conductor therein. The movement conversion assembly is in the main housing and includes a driver operatively associated with the first set of jaws so that a tightening movement of the driver is converted into a clamping force of the first set of jaws on the first electrical conductor.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 26, 2023Publication date: December 28, 2023Applicant: Hubbell IncorporatedInventors: Charles L York, III, Spencer Phelan Ralphs, Shane Michael Hopps, Jefferson Robert Hall

Publication number: 20230323912Abstract: A breakaway threaded fastener is provided that includes a hollow stud, a pin, and a cap. The stud has a hollow cavity, a closed end, an open end with an upper surface, a wall, and an outer surface, which includes an external thread. The pin is in the hollow cavity with a first end at the closed end of the hollow stud and a second end proximate the open end of the hollow stud. The cap has another hollow cavity with a closed end, an open end, an inner surface, and an internal thread. The cap is threadably engaged to the open end of the hollow stud via the internal and external threads so that the second end of the pin abuts the inner surface of the cap with a gap remaining between the upper surface of the hollow stud and the inner surface of the cap.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2023Publication date: October 12, 2023Applicant: Hubbell IncorporatedInventor: Charles L York, III

Publication number: 20230198174Abstract: Wedge type electrical connector assemblies adapted to electrically and mechanically connect conductors within transmission and/or distribution circuits is provided. The wedge type electrical connector assembly includes a frame, an interface and a wedge assembly. The interface is coupled to the frame so that it is movable relative to the frame. The interface can move and flex when installing conductors into the wedge type electrical connector assemblies. The interface includes a tap contact surface configured to push a tap conductor positioned between the tap contact surface and the wedge in a direction so that a larger surface area of the tap conductor contacts the tap contact surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 16, 2022Publication date: June 22, 2023Inventors: Charles L York, III, Gary E Schrader, III, Jeremy Jushchyshyn

Patent number: 8808017Abstract: A novel connector pair suppresses arcing during connection and disconnection. In one general aspect of the invention, first and second insulating barriers are configured to extend beyond corresponding first and second contacts, the barriers being arranged to cover a leading end of at least one of the contacts, and to engage with each other when the contacts are separated by a small gap, thereby closing off substantially all through-air arcing paths between them. In another general aspect of the invention, at least one electrical contact in a connector pair is a bimetal contact having a transitional segment made from high resistivity metal. The transitional segment is configured to make first and last contact during the initial phases of mating and un-mating, thereby increasing electrical resistance and significantly lowering the electrical current and the energy available for electrical arcing.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 2013Date of Patent: August 19, 2014Assignee: Anderson Power Products, Inc.Inventors: Charles L York, Brian F Davies

Patent number: 8641442Abstract: A latching mechanism for a mid-power electrical connector is compact, strong, easy to disengage, durable, and low in manufacturing cost. The basic system includes a plug housing and a receptacle housing, each molded from plastic as a single piece, and at least one simple, mainly flat, metal latching tab inserted into a side of the plug housing. During connection of the housings, the latching tabs flex inward as they enter channels in the receptacle housing, and then spring outward to engage with receptacle latching features. In embodiments, wedge-shaped inward plastic protrusions in the channels engage with holes in the latching tabs. Unlatching requires only pressing the latching tabs gently inward. In embodiments, plastic pressing tabs can be pressed inward with fingers to flex and release the latching tabs. In other embodiments, the latching tabs are inaccessible to fingers, and a tool is required to release the latching tabs.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2012Date of Patent: February 4, 2014Assignee: Anderson Power Products, Inc.Inventors: Christine M Svelnis, Charles L York
