  • Publication number: 20240120126
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for collimating a neutron beam to specified deliverable formats having targeted beam diameters and direction are described. Examples of a neutron collimator assembly can include numerous components based on location, function, dimension, and/or constituent material. The components can include, neutron beam collimators, a beam stop, a mounting assembly, electro-mechanical actuators, an electronic controller, a safety interlock system, a moveable radiation shield, a safety cover, and an adjustable patient platform. In addition, examples of variable aperture neutron beam collimators such as nested neutron beam collimators and collimators with a diaphragm iris are described. Materials are also described.

  • Publication number: 20240066323
Abstract: A method for monitoring and controlling neutron beams includes performing a calibration process for a monitoring dosimeter at a first set of conditions for directing a neutron beam towards an object location, the neutron beam being emitted from a neutron-generating target in response to an incident charged particle beam, the process comprising: obtaining data indicating a first neutron flux measured by the monitoring dosimeter between the monitoring dosimeter and the object location, the monitoring dosimeter offset from the axis by a distance equal to or greater than the beam radius; obtaining data indicating a second neutron flux measured by a reference dosimeter between the target and the object location; storing calibration data including a correlation between the first neutron flux and the second neutron flux; and based on the calibration data, using the monitoring dosimeter to monitor neutron flux incident on a patient during boron neutron capture therapy treatment.

  • Publication number: 20230284368
Abstract: Embodiments of systems, devices, and methods relate to exclusion of ion beam paths on the target surface to optimize neutron beam performance. A particle beam is directed along an axis so that the particle beam is incident on a target positioned on the particle beam axis. The target has a scannable surface extending over an area substantially orthogonal to the axis. The particle beam is scanned across the scannable surface of the target along a first path having a first flux. The particle beam, having a second flux, is scanned across the scannable surface of the target along a second path that is within an exclusion area of the target.
