  • Patent number: 4688973
Abstract: An automated machine tool is provided having an adjusting apparatus for changing the cutting radius of a cutting tool by changing the tool's position on a horizontal axis perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the cutting tool. A constant cutter feed rate is maintained by adjusting the rotation rate of the cutting tool in proportion to the distance of the cutting tool from the centerline of rotation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 31, 1985
Date of Patent: August 25, 1987
    Assignee: McDonnell Douglas Corporation
Inventors: Charles M. Andert, John E. Corley
  • Patent number: 4530625
Abstract: An improved hydraulic stop for use with drilling and countersinking tools. The stop limits the penetration of the tool into the workpiece by dwelling at a pre-set depth while the machine spindle continues to travel (feed) through a hydraulic override system.A safety relief valve, pre-set to a safe load, will permit the device to collapse or override if the hydraulic or mechanical override system should fail.

  • Patent number: 4273481
Abstract: An automatic hydraulic stop for use with a numerical control machine and cutting tool. The stop senses the distance to a work piece, limits the depth of penetration of the tool into a work piece and provides protection for inadvertent travel of spindle of the numerical control machine beyond a projected point.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: June 16, 1981
    Assignee: McDonnell Douglas Corporation
