    Abstract: Theft at an automatic teller machine (ATM) is deterred by having an ATM customer enter a special number as he or she enters his or her ATM card number. This special number alerts authorities and can automatically activate cameras and/or lights. The special number activates an emergency system which can be similar to a 911 emergency system.
