Abstract: A gas-cooled turbine generator includes a rotor having baffles arranged in rings and defining a plurality of gas cooling zones. A stator core has stator slots in a bore in which the rotor is received. A plurality of air gap baffle assemblies are arranged in segmented baffle rings in the stator slots and cooperate with the zone rings on the rotor. Each of the air gap baffle assemblies includes at least one baffle segment and an individual locking cam cooperating with a respective wedge of the baffle segment to lock the baffle segment relative to a stator slot at which the baffle segment is positioned such that prior baffle “trains” are no longer required.

  • Patent number: 6873752
Abstract: A tuneable sensor reed for fiber optic vibration sensors. A sensor reed is mounted inside of a sensor case with an adjustable mounting structure such as a screw, bolt, clamp or cam lock. Adjusting the mounting structure changes the stresses on the sensor reed, and therefore adjusts the base frequency without the need to replace the whole sensor case. In a particular embodiment, the sensor reed is held in place by screws that completely penetrate the sensor case, and adjustments are made at the terminal end of the screw, which is on the outside of the sensor case, using for example, lock nuts. This adjustment allows for a sensor reed to be reset to its base frequency to compensate for such things as frequency drift, or to be set to a new frequency as desired.

  • Publication number: 20030015841
Abstract: A seal system by which a seal located within a confined space can be worked. The seal system includes an access structure having a positioning channel removably attached to a first element, and a second element set apart from the first element to provide a gap between the first element and the second element. The seal system also includes a securement portion sized and configured to be accepted into and retained by the positioning channel of the access structure and/or the first element. By this configuration, the seal can attain a service orientation, where the seal does not appreciably obstruct the gap, and an operation orientation, where the seal can completely obstruct or essentially completely obstruct the gap. By this configuration, the seal can also be contorted or moved into a protected area to make room for another object.

  • Patent number: 6439907
Abstract: A junction assembly has at least one junction and at least one flexible connector. The junction has at least one channel sized and configured to accept and secure at least a portion of a flexible connector relative to the parallel rings and main lead, and at least one coolant passageway through with a coolant can flow to cool the flexible connectors. The flexible connectors are constructed of conductive wire to provide an electrically conductive path and to provide the junction assembly with flexibility. • Patent number: 6373165
Abstract: A clamping apparatus clamps opposing pairs of stator coil windings of a turbine generator and includes a retaining platform positioned adjacent one side and across a pair of coil windings having a space therebetween. A bore extends therethrough and is aligned with the space between the pair of coil windings. A connecting insert member is carried within the bore of the retaining platform and has a threaded through-hole aligned with the space between the pair of coil windings. A threaded rod extends through the space between the pair of coil windings and through the threaded through-hole of the connecting insert member. The threaded rod mates with the threaded through-hole such that the tension created in the threaded rod during tightening biases the retaining platform against the pair of coil windings.

  • Patent number: 6225726
Abstract: An apparatus useful in clamping stator coil windings of a turbine generator includes a retaining platform for extending across a pair of the coil windings positioned in a spaced relation. The retaining platform includes a bore extending therethrough. A connecting insert member is slidably carried within the bore and has a through-hole with separable mating segments for admitting a rod into the through-hole. An elongated rod passes through the throughhole of the connecting insert member, which rod includes a bulbous shaped end dimensioned for passing through the bore of the retaining platform but cannot pass through the through-hole of the connecting insert member. Thus providing tension in the elongated rod biases the platform against the pair of coil windings.

  • Patent number: 5373211
Abstract: A support assembly for the end windings of a turbine generator includes a plurality of braces which are spaced apart around the circumference of the winding basket and which are mechanically connected to support rings disposed around the stator coils. The support assembly is decoupled from the stator core such that the end windings and end winding support structure float freely of the stator core during normal generator operating conditions. During abnormal short circuit operating conditions, the support assembly contacts brackets on the stator core such that the end windings are slidably engaged upon and supported by the stator core. Radial clamps tightly secure the top and bottom coils to the end winding support assembly to apply radial compressive load to the coils to prevent radial displacement of the coils and to maintain the end winding-end winding support structure as a monolithic structure capable of withstanding abnormal operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 4982122
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for preventing electrical shorts between sets of stator coil headers and accompanying connections is disclosed in which a reinforced, non-conducting cover is fitted over a pair of stator coil headers, or a stator coil header and an adjacent phase connector. Thereafter, the cavity formed by the fitted cover can be filled with an insulating, solidifying or polymerizing material or resin. Use of such an apparatus insulates the entire header apparatus and prevents any accidental shorting between sets of stator coil ends.

  • Patent number: 4831303
Abstract: Improved turbine generators including stator coil bracing and methods for bonding stator coils to diamond spacers to reduce the leakage of Corona suppressive compositions, such as CORONOX.RTM., are provided. The apparatus and methods include wrapping a portion of the stator coils coated with the Corona suppressive compositions with a reinforced layer which has been impregnated with a room-temperature polermerizing resin. • Patent number: 4808873
Abstract: A filler material for supporting the coil end portions at the diamond area of a dynamoelectric machine consists of a resin filler disposed in the vent areas between adjacent coil end portions and a plurality of spacer blocks disposed in the filler. The spacer blocks have a sufficient volume and coefficient of thermal expansion to prevent excessive build up of temperature during curing of the resin and to decrease the overall coefficient of thermal expansion of the filler material and adjust the thermal expansion characteristics of the filler material so that such characteristics more closely match the thermal expansion characteristics of the coils themselves. The resin filler comprises an epoxy resin and the blocks, which have a generally orthogonal shape, are constructed of a laminated fiber glass material. A bead of resinous material is provided at the edges of the planar surfaces of the orthogonally shaped blocks to prevent abrasive contact between the blocks and the adjacent coil end portions.
