  • Patent number: 9168599
Abstract: A cutting disk for a rotary cutting machine includes a disk body having a central axis of rotation and a circumferentially extending outer periphery. A plurality of circumferentially spaced apart cutting teeth is mounted to the outer periphery of the disk body. A chip pocket is defined in the circumferential outer periphery of the disk body between each of the circumferentially spaced apart cutting teeth. Each chip pocket is formed by a chip clearance surface extending radially inwardly into the disk body to form the chip pocket between circumferentially adjacent cutting teeth. The chip pocket is adapted to receive a tooth-produced chip therein, thereby providing more room for chip discharge and thus reducing disk wear.

  • Publication number: 20140260876
Abstract: A saw tooth for mounting onto a holder of a circular saw or of a mower drum is provided. The tooth has a mounting end for mounting against a component of the holder, a cutting end, opposite to the mounting end, the cutting end being provided with at least one cutting edge; and a plurality of sides extending from the mounting end to the cutting end. The plurality of sides include at least one holder side operatively mountable against the holder and at least one outer side opposite to the holder side the outer side being non-linear, diverging from the mounting end to the cutting end and having a contour slope which increases from the mounting end to the cutting end. The tooth thereby provides a greater clearance at its mounting end, and a greater kerf at its cutting end.

  • Patent number: 8061396
Abstract: A tooth for a circular saw or a mower drum that can be used to cut standing trees or brush and undergrowth. The tooth has four cutting edges arranged in a first pair of opposed cutting edges that are generally straight and a second pair of opposed cutting edges that are generally concave. The tooth is mounted in a holder in a first or second cutting position that orients a cutting edge of the first or second pair to physically contact and effect a cutting method to a cuttable material. In a first cutting method, a generally straight cutting edge contacts the material, resulting in a slicing action. In a second cutting method, a generally concave cutting edge contacts the material, resulting in a gouging action. Teeth in the circular saw or brush mower alternate between first and second cutting positions, allowing both cutting methods to be applied to cuttable material.

  • Publication number: 20070193428
Abstract: A rotary cutting machine comprises a circular rotating element having a transverse axis of rotation and which is mounted to the rotary cutting machine for rotation about the axis of rotation. A plurality of cutting teeth are mounted to the circular rotating element at spaced apart locations about its circumferential periphery. The cutting teeth are reversible and removably fastened to the circular rotating element. Each cutting tooth includes opposed first and second cutting faces spaced apart by lateral surfaces extending therebetween. The first and second cutting faces define at least four of the cutting edges thereon, such that the cutting teeth are selectively mountable on the circular rotating element in any one of at least eight different positions, each of the positions providing a different one of the cutting edges in the operable cutting position.

  • Publication number: 20070151430
Abstract: A replaceable saw tooth for a rotary cutting machine. The saw tooth comprises more than two cutting edges on each of two opposed faces thereof. More specifically, the saw tooth may comprise a body having two cutting faces disposed opposite each other and spaced apart by at least four side faces which are each parallel to an opposite one of the side faces. The side faces are parallel to a central axis extending between the two cutting faces. Four cutting edges are defined between the side faces and each of the two cutting faces.

  • Patent number: 5004026
Abstract: An improved tree felling head that minimizes splintering of the butt ends of trees while felling them, and that also minimizes losing them off the felling head after they are cut. The felling head has retaining means for loosely retaining the trees cut or being cut within tree receiving cradles provided on the felling head.
