    Abstract: A method of removing a coating material from a substrate surface portion comprises providing a substrate having a coating material adhered to a surface thereof. The coating material comprises a CO2-soluble material. The coating material is contacted to a fluid comprising carbon dioxide to dissolve the coating material therein. The carbon dioxide fluid is then separated from the substrate to remove the coating material from the substrate surface.

    Abstract: A structure of CO.sub.2 -insoluble material has a three-dimensional object of CO.sub.2 -soluble material positioned inside. The object is contacted with a fluid containing carbon dioxide which dissolves the object in the fluid. The fluid is then removed to form a cavity in the structure.
