    Abstract: A hermetic rotary refrigerant compressor is provided with means for handling the oil and refrigerant vapor mixture to provide sufficient cooling of the motor without external precoolers and related conduits and apparatus. In a preferred embodiment, the oil is collected and caused to flow along a portion of the internal surface of the hermetic shell in such a way that the shell itself functions as a heat exchanger. The heat is transferred through the shell to the cooler ambient air in contact with the external surface thereof.
