Patent number: 10699829Abstract: A cooling system for use in a superconducting magnet comprising a high temperature superconductor, HTS, coil. The cooling system comprises a refrigeration unit, one or more coolant channels, and a pumping unit. The refrigeration unit is configured to cool a gas, wherein the gas is hydrogen or helium. The one or more coolant channels are configured to be placed in thermal contact with components of the superconducting magnet and to carry said gas. The pumping unit is configured to pump said gas through the coolant channels. The refrigeration unit and pumping unit are configured to maintain the gas at a pressure and temperature such that a Joule-Thompson coefficient of the gas is positive, and the coolant channel is configured to reduce the pressure of gas as it flows through the channel by one or more of a throttle, a valve, and choice and/or variance of a cross section of the coolant channel.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 2016Date of Patent: June 30, 2020Assignee: TOKAMAK ENERGY LTDInventors: Charles Monroe, Paul Noonan

Patent number: 10408895Abstract: A carrier for a sample of highly polarized material includes a shell having a radially exterior surface and a radially interior surface, and a sample of highly polarized material interiorly adjacent to the radially interior surface. The shell may be substantially cylindrical, and may be constructed from a magnetic or non-magnetic material. The sample of highly polarized material may comprise a methyl rotor group material. The sample of highly polarized material may comprise pyruvic acid or an acetic acid. The sample of highly polarized material may be co-axial with the cylindrical shell. The sample of highly polarized material may be bonded or frozen to the radially interior surface of the shell. The carrier may further comprise a wad of material that forms a volume and contacts an axially proximate end of at least one of the shell or the sample.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2014Date of Patent: September 10, 2019Assignees: Bruker Biospin Corporation, Millikelvin Technologies LLCInventors: Matthew Hirsch, Avrum Belzer, Neal Kalechofsky, Charles Monroe

Publication number: 20140289087Abstract: A system and method are provided for chart pattern recognition and analysis. In one embodiment, a graphical interface is provided to enable a trader to select a portion of a chart to be used in the chart pattern analysis. The pattern of the selected portion of the chart could then be used to find one or more similar chart patterns in a user-defined timeframe, such as any future time period or a time period in the past. When a reoccurring chart pattern is found in any future time period, an alert signal can be generated to alert a user of a possibility of the chart pattern reoccurrence. Alternatively, chart pattern matches can be found in a time period in the past, and a set of studies can be applied to the found matches to generate a set of reoccurring indicator values. The reoccurring indicator values can be used in combination with the chart pattern to detect any similar chart patterns in the future.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 2013Publication date: September 25, 2014Applicant: Trading Technologies International, Inc.Inventors: Charles Monroe, Alvin F. Tanpoco

Publication number: 20080276482Abstract: A target substance (8) is subject to a freeze drying process in which the substance is first passed into a freeze chamber (31) to reduce the temperature of the substance, and then passed into a separate vacuum chamber (32) in which a vacuum is applied to promote drying of the target substance. Because the carrier (10) and target substance (8) is moved from a freeze chamber (31) to a separate vacuum chamber (32) the environment can be more closely controlled and the cycling of freezing to drying can be more rapid. In this way the carrier (10) and target substance (8) is subject to the full temperature cycling without the surrounding chamber and apparatus being subject to the full cycle. This reduces time and energy costs. The technique is particularly suited to manufacturing biosensors using freeze dried reagents.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 8, 2006Publication date: November 13, 2008Applicant: OXFORD BIOSENSORS LIMITEDInventors: John Morton Broughall, Charles Richard Wedge, Charles Monroe
