  • Patent number: 5961341
Abstract: An electrical tap assembly is provided for connecting at least one tap wire to at least one through wire. The assembly includes a dielectric housing body having a wire slot for receiving the tap wire, a through wire passage for receiving the through wire and a terminal-receiving cavity extending in a direction transverse to the wire slot and the through wire passage. A terminal is positionable in the terminal-receiving cavity and includes a first insulation displacement end for connection to the tap wire and a second insulation displacement end for connection to the through wire. The terminal is movably mounted in the cavity for movement between a first position allowing insertion of the tap wire into the wire slot and a second position with the first insulation displacement end terminating the tap wire. A shoulder is provided on the terminal for engagement by an appropriate insertion tool to drive the terminal from its first position to its second position.
