  • Patent number: 11878588
Abstract: A method and a device are disclosed for activating a function subject to authorization in a vehicle comprising a system of digital rear-view mirrors with at least first and second touch screens, arranged on the driver's and passenger's side, respectively. The vehicle comprises members suitable for providing at least one function subject to authorization. The method comprises detection, by one of the members, of an action by a person that requires the activation of a function subject to authorization; —transmission, from the member to the system of digital rear-view mirrors, of information relating to the detection; —receipt, from the system of digital rear-view mirrors, of the information relating to the detection originating from the member, —display, on one of the touch screens, of a notification comprising the function subject to authorization, and; an interaction zone suitable for receiving either an agreement or a refusal from the driver and/or the front passenger.

  • Patent number: 6112623
Abstract: A tool for driving a screw having two threaded shanks separated by an intermediate portion. The tool includes a rod having a tapped end portion adapted to engage one of the threaded shanks. The tool also includes a cage adapted to receive the intermediate portion of the screw therein. The cage is provided with at least one opening containing a rolling member configured to be applied against a surface of the intermediate portion of the screw. The tool additionally includes a tube surrounding the rod and the cage. The tube includes an inner wall having a profile configured such that as the tube is rotated about the longitudinal axis, the inner surface applies a radial force to the rolling member, causing the rolling member to be radially displaced through the opening in the cage and placing it in abutment with the intermediate portion of the screw.

  • Patent number: 6102912
Abstract: A vertebral rod for fixation of a spine, the rod defining an outer cross section and including a detachable end portion also defining the same outer cross section. In one embodiment, the detachable end portion is connected to the remainder of the rod by a region of reduced strength. The region of reduced strength forms a fracture initiator defining an area of reduced outer cross section so that the detachable end portion can be broken off. In another embodiment, the rod defines a threaded opening and a threaded spigot, each extending along the longitudinal axis of the rod. The spigot threadedly engages the opening to releasably connect the detachable end portion to the remainder of the rod. In either embodiment, the detachable end portion is configured to receive a driving tool for removing the detachable end portion from the remainder of the rod.

  • Patent number: 5776197
Abstract: An adjustable vertebral body replacement implant and assembly includes a thin-walled cylindrical body configured to span over most of the length between intact vertebrae when damaged or diseased vertebrae have been removed. The cylindrical body defines a hollow interior with a plurality of bone-ingrowth apertures communicating with the interior. The replacement assembly further includes endplates configured to contact the adjacent vertebra and to engage the cylindrical body therebetween. The cylindrical body and the endplates include mating threads to permit adjustment of the overall height of the implant. A means for fixing the cylindrical body to the endplates is contemplated, which in one embodiment is a set screw for locking the components in place. In another embodiment, the means for fixing includes a crimping channel and notch defined in the endplates to be crimped onto the cylindrical body.

  • Patent number: 5518034
Abstract: A flexible hose which makes possible the early visual detection of a malfunction, can have a structure which allows a localized deformation in specified zones. This structure can have a combination of at least one radial expansion zone, and at least one compensation zone, wherein a localized deformation can occur as soon as the leak pressure of the leaking fluid reaches a threshold value which is only a fraction of the operating pressure of the fluid being transported through the hose.

  • Patent number: 4078153
Abstract: The transmission system enables clock signals and auxiliary signals to be transmitted over a single channel, thereby avoiding the necessity of providing an independent auxiliary signal channel. This is accomplished by shifting in time the rising edges of the basic clock signal in the sending circuit as a function of the auxiliary signals to be transmitted, and then detecting this time-shift at the receiving circuit to recover the auxiliary signals. The clock signal is regenerated at the receiving circuit from the falling edges of the received clock signals.

  • Patent number: 3972354
Abstract: A self-floating flexible pipe for use with off-shore petroleum installations, which includes an inner reinforced pipe for conducting fluids which is surrounded by a layer of cellular material for assuring permanent floatation of the pipe. In order to protect the cellular layer, an outer reinforcing sheathing formed of helically wound metallic cables embedded in a rubber layer is provided. These helically wound metallic cables are wound at a setting angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the pipe in the range of 56.degree. to 68.degree. so as to minimize the effect of these armoring cables on the flexibility of the overall pipe construction. These armoring cables are also preferably resilient in a longitudinal direction, with preferred embodiments including undulated cables so as to further lessen the impact of these cables on the flexibility of the pipe. An outer covering layer of polychloroprene is provided on the rubber layer within which the cables are embedded for protecting this rubber layer.
