  • Patent number: 5435709
Abstract: Apparatus for preparing first and second chemical compounds to be mixed for reaction, the first and second chemical compounds being extruded in respective first and second bands of semi-solid material and wherein one of the bands may be coated with a protective coating to prevent a chemical reaction between the epoxy resin and the curing agent until the epoxy resin and curing agent are kneaded together, the apparatus including a twisting section including a pair of endless belts which have portions overlying one another, the belts being oriented so that their axes extend at complementary angles relative to the direction of travel of an infeed conveyor belt which advances the juxtaposed bands of material through the twisting section which twists together the bands, producing an elongated, generally cylindrical product with first and second bands being wrapped helically upon one another.

  • Patent number: 5090843
Abstract: A low-permeability zone analogous to natural low permeability zones is deliberately formed within a landfill, mine tailings or other cover system to prevent the migration of water or other substances into or out of the wastes being isolated. Natural low-permeability zones such as caliche, calcrete, silicrete or gypcrete are formed by natural processes including leaching, transport, and re-precipitation of slightly soluble minerals through the action of rain or other water percolating through the soil column.

  • Patent number: 4242362
Abstract: Cheese having eyes such as Swiss cheese is produced by a process which results in more uniform eye size and eye distribution, and which requires substantially reduced curing time. In the process, pressing of the curd is carried out for about 2 to 4 hours at 80.degree. F. to 130.degree. F., salting of the curd is carried out in a super saturated salt brine in excess of 85% salinity reading for 30 minutes to 4 hours at about 80.degree. to 130.degree. F. and curing is carried out by aging the curd for about 6 to 24 hours and thereafter force drying the curd with high velocity air at a temperature of about 90.degree. to 300.degree. F. for about 1 to 60 minutes.
