  • Publication number: 20040006615
Abstract: A method creates a proxy auto-configuration file for a system including a plurality of proxy servers. The method includes accessing and performing a performance test on each of the plurality of proxy servers, and creating a proxy auto-configuration (PAC) file in response to the performing. The PAC file may be posted on a web server. The method may further include iteratively updating the PAC file by periodically conducting the accessing, the performing, and the creating. The creating the PAC file may include generating a list of a selected number of best-performing proxy servers among the plurality of proxy servers. The performing the performance test may include sending a command to fetch at least one selected web page, receiving the selected web page, and determining an amount of time required to fetch the selected web page.

  • Patent number: 5960444
Abstract: A software tool that allows a user to combine a number of smaller documents and then to index the combined documents. A bookfile contains one or more documents, each document containing its own indexing information. The user can drag and drop names of bookfiles into the tool. The invention also compensates for various formats and versions of the documents. A preferred embodiment of the present invention operates on FrameMaker 4.0 documents and can also handle mixed FrameMaker version 3.0 and version 4.0 documents. The software tool combines the documents and generates a master index for all the documents. The software tool also allows the user to specify abbreviations and long titles to use in the index generated for each bookfile.

  • Patent number: 4364592
Abstract: The present invention provides a compact, multi-purpose log handling tool including a log handling hook with an integrally extending shank having an opening defined in its upper end. A loop shaped handle is received through the opening in the shank for mounting the hook to the handle. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the opening in the shank is generally flat-sided (rectangular, square or oval), and the handle has at least two sections of different cross-sectional area. The shank, and thus also the hook, is slideable between the two sections. The first handle section has a generally circular cross-sectional area and is of smaller dimension than the opening in the shank, and the second handle section has a cross-sectional area and dimension that identically compliments the size and shape of the opening in the shank. When the shank is slid into engagement over the first section of the handle, the hook is pivotal relative to the handle.
