Patent number: 6561403Abstract: A bag dispenser, for separating and dispensing plastic bags from a roll of bags where one end is attached to the top of the next bag by perforation lines with a slot therebetween. The bags are dispensed from a device comprising a wire frame formed into arcuate channels to support the core that the series of bags are rolled onto. The dispenser includes a second tensioning member attached to a support member and disposed at an angle thereto to provide tension to the edges of the roll of bags as the core passes through the channel passageway as bags are removed from the roll. Spaced apart from the support is a symmetric separating tongue. The tongue will engage the slot regardless of whether the bags are drawn over or under the tongue. As the user pulls on the bags, a tension is created by the brake and the user to deflect the tongue which remains deflected until the tongue engages the slot.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1997Date of Patent: May 13, 2003Assignee: Cryovac, Inc.Inventors: Charles P. Patent number: 5813585Abstract: A dispensing apparatus for serially dispensing plastic bags from a wound roll of continuous flexible plastic bags joined along perforated severance lines. A container is provided which is adapted to receive the wound roll of plastic bags. The container has a bottom, a pair of opposed sides having an inwardly facing flange extending therefrom, and a separating tongue projecting outward from the bottom. The flanges define a self-threading slide for threading the plastic bags from the wound roll along a predetermined path onto the separating tongue. The separating tongue separates the plastic bags from the wound roll as the plastic bags engage the separation tongue along a predetermined path of travel.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1997Date of Patent: September 29, 1998Assignee: Sealed Air CorporationInventors: Charles P. Kannankeril, Bruce A. Cruikshank, German Gavronsky, Brian K. Farison

Patent number: 5573168Abstract: A dispensing apparatus for serially dispensing plastic bags from a wound roll of continuous flexible plastic bags joined along perforated severance lines. A box like container is provided which is adapted to receive the wound roll of plastic bags. The container has a bottom panel, a top panel, a rear panel, a front panel, and a pair of opposed side panels. The front panel defines a guide slot for guiding the plastic bags from the wound roll along a predetermined path and further defining a threading slide for threading the plastic bags from the wound roll into the guide slot. A separation tongue is located on the front panel for separating the plastic bags from the wound roll as the plastic bags engage the separation tongue along a predetermined path of travel.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1993Date of Patent: November 12, 1996Assignee: Sealed Air CorporationInventors: Charles P. Patent number: 5552169Abstract: A food package and absorbent pad adapted for microwave or conventional oven cooking of food products by being formed of high temperature resistant, heat sealable materials and by the pad being capable of absorbing water, juices and the like and fats, oils or greases simultaneously without hindering the absorption of the other, and in which the liquid permeability of the pad may be controlled depending upon the characteristics of the food product. The pad includes upper and lower layers, and an intermediate layer of absorbent material, one or both of the upper and lower layers may be of varying liquid permeability.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1991Date of Patent: September 3, 1996Assignee: Sealed Air CorporationInventors: Charles P. Patent number: 5372877Abstract: This invention relates to a biodegradable foam product and composed of paper fibers or other cellulosic biodegradable material with a superabsorbent polymer and shaped into any desired shape and size and to processes for making same. The foam product is made by blending fibers with up to 25% by weight of a superabsorbent polymer, adding water to the blend allowing it to expand by letting the superabsorbent polymer soak up excess water and drawing off water. Upon drying, the foam product gives off water and the polymer shrinks to its original size leaving voids between the fibers while maintaining the expanded dimensions. The foam product is a soft material especially suited as a cushioning material.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1992Date of Patent: December 13, 1994Assignee: Sealed AirInventor: Charles P. Kannankeril

Patent number: 4785044Abstract: Flame retardant polyolefin compositions characterized by a stabilized high halogen content which will not migrate to the surface of articles formed therefrom are disclosed. The compositions comprise a polyolefin resin, a halogen flame retardant compound which is high in halogen content and would ordinarily migrate to the surface of articles formed from the composition, and a polyol having at least one fatty acid substituted thereon. The polyol stabilizes the halogen flame retardant compound and prevents migration thereof to the surface of articles formed from the flame retardant composition. A preferred example of the present invention is a flame retardant polyolefin composition comprising a polyethylene resin, decabromodiphenyl oxide, and a glyceride.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1987Date of Patent: November 15, 1988Assignee: Sealed Air CorporationInventor: Charles P.
