  • Publication number: 20220331573
Abstract: A method for delivering one or more medication pellet to a subcutaneous insertion site with a round tipped obturator and blunt cannula is described. The obturator is received within the cannula. The cannula includes a tubular cannula body having a smooth anterior surface a medication slot disposed along the cannula body. The cannula body has an inner diameter that is at least 3 millimeters (mm). The cannula and obturator probe an incision into the subcutaneous tissue along an insertion path within the subcutaneous tissue. The obturator is removed from the cannula, and one or more medication pellet is placed in the medication slot. The cannula body again receives the obturator, which passes the pellet(s) through the cannula body with its anterior rounded tip so that the obturator pushes the pellet(s) through the cannula body. The pellet(s) exit the cannula body and are delivered aligned along the insertion path.

  • Patent number: 11406806
Abstract: A method of atraumatic medication pellet delivery using an atraumatic trocar apparatus is described. The atraumatic trocar apparatus includes a cannula and an obturator. The method includes receiving the obturator by the cannula, wherein the obturator passes through the interior passage and exits through the anterior cannula opening so that the obturator anterior rounded tip extends past the anterior cannula end and at least one opening proximate to the anterior rounded tip also extends past the anterior cannula end. The method includes inserting the atraumatic trocar through an incision into subcutaneous tissue along an insertion path to an insertion length. Additionally, the method includes inserting one or more medication pellet into the medication slot of the inserted cannula and delivering the medication pellet(s) through the interior passage of the cannula to a subcutaneous delivery site by inserting the obturator into the posterior opening of the cannula.

  • Publication number: 20220226018
Abstract: A minimally traumatic trocar apparatus for delivering one or more medication pellets to a subcutaneous insertion site is described. The minimally traumatic trocar apparatus includes a blunt cannula and an obturator. The blunt cannula includes a tubular cannula body having an anterior end with a surface that has a smooth edge. The blunt cannula also includes a medication slot disposed along the tubular cannula body and an inner diameter that is at least 3 millimeters (mm). The obturator includes an anterior rounded tip. The obturator body is inserted within the tubular cannula body so that the obturator extends through the tubular cannula body so that the anterior rounded tip of the obturator extends past the anterior end of the tubular cannula body.

  • Publication number: 20220226019
Abstract: A minimally traumatic trocar system is described. The trocar system includes a cannula, a plastic obturator, and hydrodissection microcannula. The cannula includes a tubular cannula body and blunt anterior surface. The obturator includes an anterior rounded tip. The hydrodissection microcannula includes an anterior rounded tip and an opening proximate to the anterior rounded tip. The cannula and plastic obturator assemble to form a minimally traumatic trocar by passing the plastic obturator through an interior passage of a tubular cannula body of the cannula. The hydrodissection microcannula probes an incision to form an insertion path while causing minimal trauma. The assembled trocar probes the incision along the insertion path to reach a delivery site within subcutaneous tissue. The plastic obturator withdraws from the cannula and at least one medication pellet is loaded within the interior passage.

  • Publication number: 20210128899
Abstract: An atraumatic trocar apparatus, system, kit, and method of use are described. The atraumatic trocar apparatus includes a cannula and an insertion obturator with an anterior rounded tip. The atraumatic trocar apparatus is assembled by passing the insertion obturator through an interior passage of a tubular cannula body of the cannula. The assembled atraumatic trocar is used to probe an incision to reach a delivery site within a patient's subcutaneous tissue. The insertion obturator is removed from the cannula and two or more medication pellets loaded within the interior passage. The insertion obturator is used to push the medication pellets through the interior passage to the delivery site and deposit the medication pellets within the patient's subcutaneous tissue in a non-linear delivery pattern.
