  • Patent number: 10073465
Abstract: Provided herein are systems and methods for scanning an optical sensor on a platform required to operate within a medium having a different pressure than the internal pressure of the sensor, including both underwater and high-altitude applications. For the case of underwater platforms, portions of the vehicle may be pulled or driven by propulsive forces through the water, whereas other portions of the vehicle may carry the platform for optical scanning, attached and rotationally controlled with respect to the driven portion of the vehicle. The platform may be rotated with respect to the portion that is pulled or driven through the water or other fluid. In some embodiments, that driven portion remains rotationally fixed with respect to the water. Other embodiments of vehicles in different environments may interface with different fluids or gasses and may be driven through the fluids or gases in similar manners.

  • Patent number: 7810498
Abstract: A volume expansion system increases the storage volume for breathing gas in a closed-circuit breathing gas apparatus. A flow controller is coupled to an inhalation side of the closed-circuit breathing gas apparatus and is also coupled to an expandable reservoir. The flow controller defines a first flow path that allows breathing gas in the inhalation side to automatically flow into the expandable reservoir when pressure in the inhalation side exceeds a threshold. The flow controller can also include the means to define a second flow path that allows on-demand return of the breathing gas in the expandable reservoir to the inhalation side of the breathing gas apparatus.

  • Patent number: 7794596
Abstract: A method for treating wastewater wherein the wastewater is introduced in prescribed doses of wastewater to a first treatment zone, establishing a negative pressure gradient using mechanical ventilation within said zone causing exhaust air flow to remove gases and promote evaporation in the zone. Excess wastewater passing through the zone is collected and reintroduced. The zone contains particulate material with a large wetted surface area covered in a microbiological slime layer.

  • Patent number: 7141031
Abstract: The cervical collar has three principal pieces: a back panel, a main collar body, and a chin piece. The chin piece is permanently attached to the main collar body and is only attached at its ends to the main collar body so that the center portion of the chin piece can adjust to chin configuration. The back panel engages behind the neck and is tightened with respect to the main collar body to properly support the patient's head and protect the cervical spine. The chin piece adjusts to the patient's chin configuration because it is sufficiently flexible and only supported away from the chin area. Each of the pieces has a foam cushioning layer.
