  • Patent number: 4146269
Abstract: A furniture support structure includes a pair of front legs and a pair of rear legs each having bore holes therein for receiving rungs that extend therebetween. The pairs of legs are locked together by rungs in the form of dowels which have grooves adjacent the ends thereof through which pass screws that register with threaded inserts in front and rear rungs which extend between the front legs and the rear legs respectively. In a preferred embodiment, the furniture support structure is used to form a seat in which an additional pair of dowels extend between the front and rear pairs of legs and support a trapezoidal-shaped web extending therebetween. In order to absorb the force applied to the structure when a person sits in the seat, the front legs and rear legs are held spaced apart by front and rear dowels. If the seat is to be configured as a chair, or the like, the rear legs extend above the front legs to support a back panel.

  • Patent number: 4079995
Abstract: A furniture structure utilizes a joint which allows three elongated members to be coupled orthogonally. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the joint is utilized in a chair in which a first elongated member is a side rail, a second elongated member is a brace, and a third elongated member is one leg of the chair. The first member, which forms the side rail, has oppositely facing notches in each end thereof. A projecting tongue is formed between the oppositely-facing notches. The second member, which forms a brace, has a threaded insert therein and is received in one of the oppositely-facing notches in the first member. The third member, which forms a leg, has a notch therein and is received in the other oppositely-facing notch of the first member, while the tongue of the first member is received in the notch of the third member. A machine screw is passed through the third and first members and is screwed into the threaded insert of the second member to hold all three members together.

  • Patent number: 4006910
Abstract: A folding seat includes a pair of side frame members joined by detachable rungs. Each side frame member has an arm, a front leg and a back leg. One of the legs is pivoted directly to the arm, while the other leg is pivoted to the arm with a sliding link which locks with the arm when the seat is erected. A web is slung between the rungs to support a person sitting in the seat and is detachably held in place by rods which register with slots in the rungs.
