  • Patent number: 5411434
Abstract: Poultry processing apparatus is disclosed for automatically performing shoulder-wing separation and severing cuts, short transverse shoulder cuts and long back cuts in the rib cage breast meat of a poultry carcass preparatory to removal of the wings and breast meat from the carcass. The apparatus includes a conveyor having a series of carcass support cones sequentially moveable along a predetermined path of travel. Combination shoulder-wing joint locating and separating members cooperate with C-shaped cutters pivotally thereon to define scissors mechanism located at a fixed position along the conveyor path to displace each wing bone from its respective shoulder socket and to then sever respective connective shoulder muscle and tendons while at the same time performing the short shoulder cuts in the carcass breast meat.

  • Patent number: 4286966
Abstract: A method for the removal of moisture associated with sulfur and for the melting of solid sulfur. A flow of molten sulfur is circulated through a mixing device in a substantially spiral flow wherein the circulating molten sulfur forms a continuous vortex of molten sulfur. Particulate solid sulfur with or without associated moisture, either as such or in the form of an aqueous slurry or moisture-containing liquid sulfur is fed into the vortex of circulating molten sulfur. Sulfur is discharged from the mixing device and any associated moisture is evaporated and separates from the sulfur. Molten sulfur substantially free of moisture is recovered.

  • Patent number: 4193970
Abstract: A process for precipitation of iron as a jarosite compound from sulfate solution in which said solution fed sequentially through a plurality of reaction zones for oxidation and hydrolysis of ferrous sulfate in the presence of alkali-metal or ammonium ions for jarosite precipitation and simultaneous generation of sulfuric acid is subjected to a "reverse temperature profile", i.e., higher temperature in the last reaction zone than in the first reaction zone, by injection of steam to the last reaction zone.
