  • Patent number: 5823378
Abstract: A breather box attaches to the exterior wall of an electrical enclosure. An upper breather opening in the box connects with a vent opening in the wall. A lower breather opening in the box is shielded by a wall spaced therefrom to prevent water entry. A labyrinth in the interior of the box forces ascending water through a series of sharp turns and through a series of constrictions which are followed by expansion chambers. The labyrinth terminates at a liquid exit adjacent the upper wall of the breather box, forcing water to substantially fill the breather box before it can enter the enclosure.

  • Patent number: 5655830
Abstract: A long life, low maintenance and low energy consumption-lighting device (15) for connection with an electrical socket within a housing of an exit sign comprises a string (35, 35, 60) of series connected light emitting diodes (38) connected in a circuit comprising a capacitor (55) for limiting the current flow through the light emitting diodes (38) and a resistor (40) to limit the surge current through the light emitting diodes (38). The resistor (40), capacitor (55) and light emitting diodes (38) are connected to the socket by one of several different standard light bulb bases (20), and are housed within a hollow translucent or transparent tube connected to the base (20). A surge suppression device (59), such as a TRANSZORB, may be connected in parallel with the resistor (40), capacitor (55) and light emitting diodes (38) to provide line transient protection for protecting the light emitting diodes (38) in response to transient voltage spikes.

  • Patent number: 5459955
Abstract: In lighting fixture such as an exit sign, a light emitting diode lighting device is provided for mating engagement with an electrical socket of the lighting fixture. The light emitting diode lighting device has a plurality of light emitting diodes with a light directing member spaced therefrom for directing light into a desired illumination pattern. The light directing member can be wedge or parabola shaped.

  • Patent number: 5416679
Abstract: In a lighting fixture such as an exit sign, a mounting base assembly is provided on a light emitting diode lighting device for mating engagement with an electrical socket. Once full mating engagement is achieved between the electrical socket and a base member of the mounting base assembly, the position of the housing carrying the light emitting diodes of the lighting device can be adjusted for alignment purposes without disturbing the full mating engagement of the electrical socket and the base member.

  • Patent number: 5410453
Abstract: In a lighting fixture such as an exit sign, a light emitting diode lighting device is provided for mating engagement with an electrical socket of the lighting fixture. The light emitting diode device has a plurality of light emitting diodes recessed in apertures for directing light into a desired illumination pattern.

  • Patent number: 5018290
Abstract: In an exit sign, a plurality of rugged low voltage incandescent lamps are mounted on a printed circuit board to provide proper illumination. The lamps are positioned to provide indirect illumination to the "EXIT" stencilling of the exit sign. The exit sign can be adapted for use with both low voltage alternating current and low voltage emergency direct current. Because the lamps are driven at low voltage and are resistant to failure due to vibration, etc., they can be expected to attain a long life in service.
