  • Patent number: 11039842
Abstract: A surgical drill bit and corresponding systems and methods of use are disclosed. The surgical drill bit being adapted and configured for cutting first and second, collinear holes within first and second portions of a patient's bone. In one embodiment, the drill bit includes a smaller diameter distal cutting portion, a larger diameter proximal cutting portion, and a shoulder positioned between the smaller diameter distal cutting portion and the larger diameter proximal cutting portion. In use, the smaller diameter distal cutting portion is adapted and configured to cut when rotated in a first direction, the larger diameter proximal cutting portion is adapted and configured to cut when rotated in a second, opposite direction. In this manner, over-drilling of the patient's bone is thereby prevented.

  • Patent number: 10197050
Abstract: A reciprocating rod pumping unit includes a tower; a counterweight assembly movable along the tower; and a drum connected to an upper end of the tower and rotatable relative thereto. The unit also includes a belt having a first end connected to the counterweight assembly, extending over the drum, and having a second end connectable to a rod string. The unit further includes a prime mover for reciprocating the counterweight assembly along the tower; a sensor for detecting a condition of the pumping unit; a brake system for halting movement of the counterweight assembly; and a controller in communication with the at least one of the sensors and operable to activate the brake system in response to detection of the faulty condition of the pumping unit.

  • Patent number: 10012656
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods for the prognosis and/or diagnosis of vascular-related disorders in a subject and in particular pregnancy-related vascular disorders. The present disclosure is based on the finding that a positive correlation exists between positive prediction of a vascular disorder event in a subject and the concentration of the circulating marker NTproCNP (also referred to as NT-CNP) in humans and animals. In addition, the present disclosure is based on the finding that there is also a positive correlation between the occurrence of a vascular related adverse event during pregnancy and the concentration of the circulating marker NT-proCNP in the maternal circulation.

  • Patent number: 7919255
Abstract: A means of measuring and monitoring skeletal growth rate using a plasma analyte, amino-terminal C-type natriuretic peptide (NT-CNP). Plasma NT-CNP concentrations reflect the potential for further growth of the immature skeleton. Measurement of plasma NT-CNP in a subject, when related to the mean of an appropriate age and gender matched set of control subjects, provides an index of the severity of a growth disorder not otherwise available and facilitates diagnosis in children with undetected osteo-chondrodysplasias or other intrinsic disorders of the growth plate. The invention also provides a means of detecting and monitoring potentially harmful effects of drugs and other factors on skeletal growth long before they are evident using current methods in clinical practice.

  • Patent number: 4824351
Abstract: A molding system including a mold and a molding machine has been adapted to monitor the position of first and second mold surfaces that move relative to each other to form a mold cavity. The system includes a source of gas under pressure and an orifice on a first molding system surface to direct a flow of pressurized gas from the first molding system surface. A monitoring system monitors the condition of the gas remote from the first molding system surface to indicate the spacing between the first molding system surface and an adjacent second molding system surface as the first and second molding system surfaces move with respect to each other.
