  • Patent number: 8733494
Abstract: Presented herein are coil retention systems for use in implantable medical devices. In certain embodiments, a coil retention system comprises an implantable non-magnetized member having a central aperture and an external magnet also having a central aperture. The external magnet is configured to magnetically couple to the implantable non-magnetized member. In certain embodiments, the external magnet and the implantable non-magnetized member have corresponding annular shapes so as to self-align with one another.

  • Publication number: 20130282094
Abstract: Disclosed herein are medical prostheses including a cochlear implant that includes circuitry enclosed within a housing and at least one electrode lead extending from the housing. The electrode lead comprises a conducting pathway and an electrode terminal at one end of the electrode lead. The conducting pathway connects the circuitry with the electrode terminal, and insulation (or an insulating sleeve) encloses at least a portion of the conducting pathway. In some embodiments, the electrode terminal has a lower thermal conductivity relative to the implant housing. In further embodiments, the insulation has thermal conductivity and thermal conduction properties that cause at least some thermal energy in the conducting pathway to flow into the insulation rather than to the electrode terminal. In still further embodiments, at least one of the electrode terminal or the electrode lead includes at least one thermal mass enhancing structure.

  • Patent number: 8515540
Abstract: The implantable medical device including a hermetic enclosure including at least one feedthrough having at least one electrically conductive path through the feedthrough. The at least one feedthrough includes an insulator having an entry face and an exit face, and at least one non-linear conductor is configured to extend, within the insulator, from the entry face to the exit face to provide the conductive path, wherein the entry and exit faces are not substantially parallel opposite faces of the insulator.

  • Publication number: 20100292760
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to an implantable device housing assembly, for use in, for example, implantable prosthetic devices. In one aspect, the present invention provides a housing for an implantable device comprising a body portion and a sealing flange. The body portion includes a cavity in which electronic components are disposed on an open side thereof, and at least one feed-through which provides electrical connections between the electronic components and the exterior of the device. The feed-through includes interior and exterior connection points, which are accessible during assembly of the device from a first side of the device. The sealing flange operatively seals the cavity so as to form a sealed housing. A method of forming a sealed housing for an implantable device is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20090292337
Abstract: A method of forming a braze join between two components is disclosed, in which braze material is introduced into a gap between the two components by capillary action. This assists in reducing flooding. Also disclosed is a component for use with the method, and an assembly produced by the method. In one form, the component comprises a recess or reservoir for storing braze material, in fluid communication with an aperture to allow the braze material to be drawn into the gap by capillary forces. The method may be used in a number of applications including medical devices and more specifically, a cochlear implant.
