  • Publication number: 20260086092
Abstract: System and method for remote self-collection of a blood sample for assessment at a lab to detect presence of specific sexually transmitted infections (STIs). An at-home collection kit may include an ability to detect chlamydia (CT), gonorrhea (GC), bacterial vaginosis (BV), candida vaginitis (CV) and Trichomonas vaginalis (TV), HSV-2, syphilis, HIV, HBsAg, an HCV. The screening of samples for the presence of antigens and/or antibodies to infectious agents is a primary laboratory tool for the diagnosis of infections of the above viruses and bacterium. Distributing a specimen collection kit containing dried blood spot (DBS) cards can eliminate the hurdles of visiting clinics or hospitals and reduce stigma. DBS samples collected on filter paper, such as GE Whatman™ 903 protein saver cards, offer several advantages over on-site phlebotomist collection. The DBS cards and collection devices are especially useful for individuals who live in remote areas where healthcare resources may be limited.

  • Publication number: 20250120629
Abstract: A device that assists with correct and efficient collection of capillary blood onto dried blood spot collection (DBS) card. The device may comprise a rectangular shape configured to hold a DBS card in a desired orientation for blood sample collection. The device comprises holes on a top side that are aligned above the circular target spots on the DBS card. The patient will be able to direct drops of capillary blood to pass through the top holes and then blood will travel into the DBS card at precise locations so as to ensure proper saturation while minimizing risk of outside contaminants and/or cross-contamination between target spots. Further, the patient can verify saturation level by looking through observation orifices disposed on the device.

The DBS card may comprise a rectangular shape configured to be held in a DBS collection device in a desired orientation for blood sample collection. The patient will be able to direct drops of capillary blood to pass through the top holes and then blood will travel into the DBS card at precise locations so as to ensure proper saturation while minimizing risk of outside contaminants and/or cross-contamination between target spots. Further, the target spots are physically separated with slits or partitions such that the patient can verify saturation level by looking through observation orifices.

  • Publication number: 20240423520
Abstract: A funnel for a small-format blood collection device and system according to embodiments described herein. The system may include a funnel having a first conical portion attached to a second cylindrical portion. At the confluence of these two portions is a shoulder having a raised exterior contour to match a contour of a mating small-format container. The mating of the contours of the shoulder and a matching topside of a small-format container provides for greater stability when utilizing the funnel during a blood collection procedure by way of capillary bleeding.
