Publication number: 20230320861Abstract: A method for performing an arthroplasty of a subtalar joint includes making at least one incision adjacent the subtalar joint, accessing the subtalar joint defined superiorly by a first articular surface and inferiorly by a second articular surface, and preparing at least one of the first articular surface and the second articular surface to form first and second interfacing surfaces. The method further includes identifying at least one landmark of the first interfacing surface and the second interfacing surface, determining at least one significant point on at least one of the first interfacing surface and the second interfacing surface relative to the at least one landmark, and placing at least one trial implant. The method also includes securing an implant positioned substantially inferior relative to the first interfacing surface and substantially superior relative to the second interfacing surface, stabilizing the subtalar joint, and closing the at least one incision.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 10, 2023Publication date: October 12, 2023Applicant: Paragon 28, Inc.Inventors: Andrew Julian GOLDBERG, Kevin Alan DODD, Richard Matthew OBERT, Michael Edward CARROLL, Mathew Richard ANDERLE, Alyssa Marie SENZ, Somair Ali TAJ, Mark MYERSON, Charles SALTZMAN, Albert BURSTEIN

Patent number: 11596421Abstract: An ankle arthroplasty system may have a talar prosthesis and a tibial prosthesis, each of which has an articular surface and a bone engagement surface. Each bone engagement surface may have an anterior-posterior curvature and a medial-lateral curvature with a convex shape. A burr with a rotatable cutting element may be used to form a prepared surface on the talus or the tibia to receive the corresponding prosthesis. A cutting guide may be used to guide motion of the burr; the cutting guide may include a base and an arm movably coupled to the base. One of the base and the arm may have a guide surface, and the other may have a follower that slides along the guide surface to constrain motion of the burr such that the prepared surface has at least one concave curvature and one convex curvature.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2018Date of Patent: March 7, 2023Inventors: Charles Saltzman, Albert H. Burstein, Jonathan T. Deland

Publication number: 20050192673Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention relates to an ankle prosthesis. Another embodiment of the present invention relates to a total ankle replacement prosthesis. Another embodiment of the present invention relates to an ankle replacement (partial or total) which is adapted, for example: (a) to treat arthritis of the ankle (e.g., ankle arthritis of any cause: after precious trauma; primary; malalignment induced; after hindfoot fusion; from recurrent ankle instability; rheumatoid or inflammatory arthritis; gout; local growth; dysplasia; growth plate arrest; avascular necrosis; hemophilia; distant septic event); (b) to revise a fused ankle; and/or (c) to treat trauma. The ankle replacement may be carried out by replacing one or more joint surfaces of an ankle joint. Another embodiment of the present invention relates to a method for inserting an ankle prosthesis.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 14, 2004Publication date: September 1, 2005Inventors: Charles Saltzman, Albert Burstein, Jonathan Deland
