Patent number: 10603468Abstract: A method of coupling a catheter tunneler adapter to a catheter is provided. The method includes providing a catheter having a lumen divider at a proximal end thereof; forming a receiving notch in the lumen divider by removing a center portion thereof such that two divider side portions remain; providing a catheter tunneler adapter having a distal end including a radially inward step which defines a contact surface configured to be received in the proximal end of the catheter; positioning the distal end of the catheter tunneler adapter within the catheter until the radially inward step engages the receiving notch; and securing the catheter tunneler adapter to the catheter.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2018Date of Patent: March 31, 2020Assignee: MEDICAL COMPONENTS INC.Inventors: Charles Scandone, Jr., Mark S. Fisher

Patent number: 9586026Abstract: A catheter tunneling adapter including a longitudinal body having a distal end and a proximal end and a passageway extending from an entrance at the proximal end to an exit at the distal end. The passageway has a first hemisphere and a second hemisphere with the first hemisphere defining a generally unobstructed first passageway portion from the entrance to the exit. A guide ramp is positioned within the second passageway and tapers towards the first hemisphere moving from the proximal end to the distal end. The ramp defines a longitudinal notch therethrough such that a second passageway portion extends from the entrance to the exit.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2016Date of Patent: March 7, 2017Assignee: Medical Components, Inc.Inventors: Charles Scandone, Jr., Mark S. Publication number: 20120209206Abstract: A tissue-ingrowth cuff for stabilization of an implanted catheter against movement, that is placeable onto the catheter by the practitioner at a desired location. The cuff is actuated by the practitioner once moved to its desired location, to grip the catheter. The cuff comprises two body portions securable to each other about a catheter at a practitioner-selected location, by means of complementary locking sections. The two cuff portions are separately slidable along the catheter prior to coupling, but include complementary catheter-gripping sections that cooperate with each other to grip the catheter upon assembly to each other. Tissue-ingrowth material is affixed to the outwardly facing surface of the cuff within a subcutaneous tunnel after catheter implantation and tunneling, thus anchoring the catheter against movement thereafter.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 10, 2012Publication date: August 16, 2012Applicant: MEDICAL COMPONENTS, INC.Inventor: Charles Scandone, JR.
