  • Patent number: 5397068
Abstract: A compact medical waste disposal device, operable without water or other processing, disposal or disinfecting fluid or solution, for pulverizing Sharps into medically acceptably safe small particles, and directing the particles into a disposable container. The disposal device comprises a waste receiving and pulverizing chamber containing a pulverizing disc blade, with the disc blade being operable only when the pulverizing chamber is sealed. The pulverizing disc grinds the medical waste against the inner surface of a closely adjacent liner of the pulverizing chamber. Relatively heavy elements, rotatably swing on the upper surface of the pulverizing disc to direct medical waste materials and fragments, towards the pulverizing interface between disc and liner.

  • Patent number: 5232150
Abstract: A two way envelope having front and rear panels with respective integral closure flaps. The front panel is provided with a window for viewing the mailing address on the contents within the envelope. The closure flap, integrated with the rear panel, has a width only sufficient to cover the indicia of return address and postage on the front panel and is preprinted with such indicia as well as bar coding. The closure flap, integrated with the front panel, is provided with a dual perforated or serrated tear strip with a free finger-lift end, and to ensure stability and replicability of tearing, the tear strip is stiffened with a stiffening material, in particular an extension of the glue applied for sealing of the envelope. For postal bar encode window envelopes, an open slot is located at the bottom of the envelope to permit postal bar encoding and reading off the envelope contents both in the original mailing and return mailing phases.

  • Patent number: 4971261
Abstract: A portable desk top "medical waste" fragmentation device and disposal system, complying with governmental requirements of maximum residual fragment size and sanitization. The fragmentation device includes a chamber having a rotating blade for fragmenting medical waste such as needles, syringes, vials and extracted teeth. For maximum effectiveness in reducing the medical waste into the requisite fragment size, the blade, with minimal clearance, passes between a U-shaped stationary member. During operation, the U-shaped member serves to momentarily hold the items to be fragmented in a stationary position as the blade fragments it in a shearing-type action. To ensure complete minimum size fragmentation, an agitating member continually throws the fragments into the path of the rotating blade. After the fragmentation is completed to the requisite size, the fragmentation chamber is opened into a disposal chute.
