  • Patent number: 9216144
Abstract: A hair treatment process for providing dispersed colors by light diffraction including (a) coating the hair with a material comprising a polymer, (b) pressing the hair with a pressing device including one or more surfaces, and (c) forming a secondary nanostructured surface pattern on the hair that is complementary to the primary nanostructured surface pattern on the one or more surfaces of the pressing device. The secondary nanostructured surface pattern diffracts light into dispersed colors that are visible on the hair. The section of the hair is pressed with the pressing device for from about 1 to 55 seconds. The polymer has a glass transition temperature from about 55° C. to about 90° C. The one or more surfaces include a primary nanostructured surface pattern.

  • Publication number: 20150314146
Abstract: A respirator comprising an outer mask in which is defined a main volume and an oronasal mask located within the outer mask and defining a secondary volume. Air for breathing enters the mask via a one-way valve and filter. Exhaled air exits the mask via an exhale conduit fitted with an exhale valve. A conduit is provided for the passage of air from the outer mask to the oronasal mask. The conduit is fitted with a one-way valve and a filter. The filter is such as to filter either particular or vapor challenges, or a mixture of these, as required.

  • Patent number: 9132299
Abstract: A respirator includes an outer mask defining a first volume. An oronasal mask defines a second volume. The oronasal mask is positioned within the first volume. A primary filter is affixed to the outer mask and a secondary filter is positioned within the first volume such that the secondary filter filters air traveling from the first volume to the second volume. The secondary filter filters air traveling around a portion of the second volume. The filters are arranged to filter either particles or vapors, or a mixture of these, as required.

  • Publication number: 20150103959
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for improving receiver performance in a multicarrier communication network in which an encoded symbol is transmitted over a transmission channel in the communications system. A model of the transmission channel is estimated, said model characterising an effect of intercarrier interference on at least one carrier in the multicarrier system. The received symbol is decoded using the estimated model to remove a predicted effect of intercarrier interference. A pre-processor is also described for operation in conjunction with a communications receiver in the network. The pre-processor includes a channel estimator operable to estimate at least one feature of the communication channel based on a received signal. The pre-processor modifies the received signal dependent on the at least one estimated feature and provides the modified signal to the communications receiver.

  • Patent number: 8938040
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for improving receiver performance in a multicarrier communication network in which an encoded symbol (250) is transmitted over a transmission channel (20) in the communications system. A model of the transmission channel (20) is estimated (718, 760), said model characterizing an effect of intercarrier interference on at least one carrier in the multicarrier system. The received symbol (250) is decoded (720, 762) using the estimated model to remove a predicted effect of intercarrier interference. A pre-processor (40) is also described for operation in conjunction with a communications receiver (30) in the network. The pre-processor (40) includes a channel estimator (42) operable to estimate at least one feature of the communication channel based on a received signal. The pre-processor (40) modifies the received signal dependent on the at least one estimated feature and provides the modified signal to the communications receiver (30).
