  • Patent number: 4909480
Abstract: The disclosure is of a compressor for the coil spring of a MacPherson strut. It comprises a top force transfer ring and a bottom U-shaped, helical ramp plate secured together in spaced relationship by tie bars. The U-shaped ramp plate is inserted between coils of the spring to surround the central, shock absorber stem. Then when the device is rotated, the ramp plate is threaded down the coil spring to pull it up into the containment between the tie bars. The slight compression of the coil spring in this manner relieves force against the spring mounting to enable repair and or change of the shock absorber.

  • Patent number: 4827759
Abstract: The dent pulling apparatus includes a rectangular tubular pulling tool having a wheel eccentrically mounted therein. A pin, which has been welded to a dented panel is inserted into one end of the pulling tool and positioned between the wheel and the wall of the tubular member so that a pull on the pin tends to rotate the eccentric wheel in a direction to tighten the grip. A fulcrum plate is slidably carried on a tubular beam that is positioned parallel to the panel to be pulled and is both supported on the floor and anchored to the vehicle. A lever, on the side of which is carried one or more of the pulling tools, is pivoted on the fulcrum plate so that a pull on the lever pulls the dent out to its normal configuration.

  • Patent number: 4276684
Abstract: A hand tool particularly adapted for compressing an automobile shock absorber spring to facilitate repairs. The tool comprises a handle with a hook pivoted at the end thereof adapted to engage under a spring coil. An arm is pivoted near one end thereof intermediate the ends of the handle, and a downwardly facing hook on the end of the arm is adapted to engage over a higher coil of the spring. By pushing the handle with the hooks engaged, the hooks or jaws are brought closer together and a short extension of the arm swings across the handle, camming back a lock sleeve slidable thereon. When the arm extension and handle are in alignment, the lock sleeve is extended by a small spring to enclose the arm extension and prevent movement thereof. The compressed coil spring exerts a force on the jaws trying to separate them. This forces the arm extension tightly against the inner surface of the lock sleeve, holding the sleeve firmly in place against inadvertent retraction.

  • Patent number: 4026578
Abstract: A device for adjusting the front wheel alignment of an automotive vehicle including a McPherson-type strut, the upper end of which is carried on the vehicle frame for limited pivotal movement and the lower end of which carries the wheel spindle assembly. The lower end of the strut is fixed on a steering arm which is pivoted on the lower ball joint. A cylindrical mounting member on which the lower ball joint stud is eccentrically secured may be rotated on the steering arm to vary the position of the strut axis relative to the fixed lower ball joint axis, pivoting the strut about its upper end mounting to adjust the camber and caster of the wheel. After the adjustment is made, the bolts attaching the steering arm to the strut are tightened to clamp the cylindrical mounting member in place.
