  • Patent number: 6508108
Abstract: A method of testing magnetorheological fluid comprises cycling the fluid at an elevated temperature, allowing the fluid to stand, performance testing the fluid, cycling the fluid at superimposed frequencies, and noting settling characteristics of the fluid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 13, 2001
Date of Patent: January 21, 2003
    Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Vardarajan R. Iyengar, Michael W. Hurtt, Charles T. West, Justin A. Rindler, Perry K. Arnold
  • Patent number: 4478729
Abstract: Lubricating oil composition comprising the reaction product of (a) molybdenum sulfonate, which is the reaction product of a hydrocarbyl sulfonic acid compound and molybdenum halide, and (b) sulfur or a sulfur-yielding compound. Preferably, an alkyl sulfonic acid having from 8-200 carbon atoms in the alkyl group is reacted with molybdenum pentachloride, and the molybdenum sulfonate resulting therefrom is sulfurized to produce the reaction product of the invention.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 14, 1982
Date of Patent: October 23, 1984
    Assignee: Standard Oil Company (Indiana)
Inventors: Mack W. Hunt, Charles T. West
  • Patent number: 4474673
Abstract: Anti-friction additives for lubricating oil are prepared by reacting a sulfurized organic compound having an active hydrogen or potentially active hydrogen with a molybdenum halide. The resulting product has friction reducing properties at least as good as currently available phosphorus-containing additives.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 11, 1982
Date of Patent: October 2, 1984
    Assignee: Standard Oil Company (Indiana)
Inventors: Mack W. Hunt, Charles T. West
  • Patent number: 4466901
Abstract: Lubricating oil composition comprising the reaction product of a phenolic compound, a molybdenum, an amine and sulfur or a sulfur-yielding compound. Preferably, molybdenum oxide, an alkyl-substituted phenol having an alkyl side chain of at least 9 carbon atoms, an amine having at least one aliphatic hydrocarbon-based radical or aliphatic-substituted aromatic radical and elemental sulfur are reacted to produce the reaction product of the invention.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 11, 1982
Date of Patent: August 21, 1984
    Assignee: Standard Oil Company (Indiana)
Inventors: Mack W. Hunt, Charles T. West
  • Patent number: 4011380
Abstract: This invention provides a process for the oxidation of copolymers of ethylene and olefinic monomers in the temperature range of from about -40.degree. F to about 800.degree. F. The oxidation is carried out in the presence of about 0.05 weight percent to about 1.0 weight percent based on copolymer/oil solution, of an oil soluble benzene sulfonic acid or salt thereof. These benzene sulfonic acids or salts thereof affect the rate of the oxidation reaction and/or the color of the oxidized product or amine reaction products thereof.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 5, 1975
Date of Patent: March 8, 1977
    Assignee: Standard Oil Company (Indiana)
Inventors: Charles T. West, George S. Culbertson
