A digital video recorder disposed in the housing is linked to the digital video camera and records images provided by the camera. A network switch disposed in the housing provides at least one network connection, and a processor adapted to run an operating system, and control the digital video camera, digital video recorder and network switch is also disposed in the housing. The network ports may be switched, selectively providing pass-through and switched communication. The processor may be adapted to provide an Internet protocol-based interface for accessing the camera video recorder and to provide analytics. A plurality of camera video recorders may be linked in series, and at least one of the camera video recorders may be linked to a network, via network connections provided by the network switch in the camera video recorders.
