Patent number: 5509172Abstract: A support assembly is provided for mounting a wheel to a frame member. The assembly includes a sleeve for telescopingly receiving a frame member, a collar for telescopingly receiving the sleeve, a housing for separable connection to the collar and for mounting to a wheel axle, and a locking member on the housing for engaging a recess in the sleeve in order to couple the housing to the sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1994Date of Patent: April 23, 1996Assignee: Kolcraft Enterprises, Inc.Inventor: Charles W. Patent number: 5388853Abstract: A collapsible baby stroller with an improved lock mechanism for preventing accidental collapse is disclosed. The lock mechanism comprises two separate engagements which must be disengaged before the lock is released, thereby enhancing safety. A locking member which rotates about one tube of the stroller first must be disengaged from a pin against the bias of a spring before the locking member can be disengaged from another tube. Only after both precautions are exercised can the tubes of the stroller move relative to each other to effect collapse.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1993Date of Patent: February 14, 1995Assignee: Kolcraft Enterprises, Inc.Inventor: Charles W. Lauro

Patent number: 4738489Abstract: A child's car seat which includes a rigid, T-shaped shield member which forms the frontal restraint barrier across the chair structure. The shield member includes a lock mechanism between the vertical crotch member and the bottom of the chair structure which can be operated with one hand. The shield member is adjustably and rotatably affixed to the sides of the chair structure to permit rotation of the shield member above the child's head. Shoulder harness straps emanating from the back of the chair structure are automatically positioned as the shield member is lowered into place. The shield member, lock mechanism and shoulder harnesses are adjustable to accommodate infants and toddlers. The shoulder harness straps interact with the lock mechanism of the shield member such that once the lock is engaged, the shoulder harness straps cannot be adjusted.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1986Date of Patent: April 19, 1988Assignee: Gerber Products CompanyInventors: Robert D. Wise, Robert L. Quinlan, Jr., Charles W. Lauro, Sidney H. Bradd, Jr.

Patent number: 4616824Abstract: An electric swing mechanism includes a battery powered solenoid which exerts a motive force on a swinging infant seat. The solenoid is activated by the linear reciprocation of a specially designed actuator past a microswitch, so that the switch is closed and the solenoid activated in only one direction of the stroke. The mechanism's linkage system is designed to contact the swinging infant seat during only half of the seat's swinging cycle, and is mechanically isolated from the seat during the other half of its cycle.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1984Date of Patent: October 14, 1986Assignee: Gerber Products CompanyInventors: Robert L. Quinlan, Jr., Charles W. Lauro

Patent number: 4611431Abstract: A gate or similar closure suitable for temporary and quick installation across a passageway is comprised of a pair of vertical posts, a vertical barrier extending laterally from one of the posts, and a gate whose pivoting edge is capable of being secured to the barrier at any location along its width, and whose other edge is capable of being latched to the other post. By selecting the point at which the hinge is secured along the width of the barrier, one may adjust the closure to span a range of passageways of varying width.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1985Date of Patent: September 16, 1986Assignee: Gerber Products CompanyInventor: Charles W.
