  • Patent number: 5265897
Abstract: A skewer assembly for holding the front fork of a bicycle. The fork has a pair of clevises each with a pair of arms. A skewer housing body has a pair of end faces extending around opposite ends of a passage which extends between them. A skewer rod adjustment and clamp act to hold the clevises against the end faces. The diameter of the skewer rod is substantially equal to the spacing between the clevis arm so the rod can fit closely over the rod.

  • Patent number: 4972927
Abstract: A ball bearing brake has a spindle with a central axis. Each member of a pair of caliper members has a lever and a brake pad arm. The members are fitted on the spindle for rotation around the axis, and for limited axial movement during assembly and adjustment. Each brake pad arm carries a brake pad to be pressed against a bicycle wheel. An end member mountable to the bicycle structure includes means to engage the spindle and to compress a stack between itself and a head on the spindle. Four sets of bearing balls are formed around the spindle, respectively confined (1) by a race adjustment to the head of the spindle and one of the lever arms (2) by a race on the first lever arm and on an intermediate race member (3) by another race on the intermediate race member and on the other lever arm, and (4) between a race on the said other lever arm and a race adjacent to the end member.

  • Patent number: 4650049
Abstract: A cycle hub is shown which can be converted between coaster brake and freewheeling operation without removal from the cycle. A unidirectional clutch is interposed between a hub sprocket and a coaster brake drive, coupling them for forward driving. It can selectively be disabled to prevent freewheeling or be enabled to permit it. When the clutch is disabled, the coaster brake hub operates conventionally.

  • Patent number: 3959707
Abstract: A battery charger for charging a temperature-sensitive battery in a rapid manner without damage to the battery, such batery being equipped with means for providing a reference voltage whose level changes with battery temperature in a similar fashion to the theoretical battery voltage change with temperature. The battery charger comprises a current-carrying conductor adapted to be connected to one terminal of the battery to be charged, with the conductor including a controlled current limiting switch serving to diminish the average amount of current flowing into the battery at such time as the battery has become patially charged. Means are provided for recurringly turning said switch on and off so as to produce a sawtooth waveform, and means sensitive to the comparison of the reference voltage with the actual battery voltage are arranged to cause a diminishment of the average value of the sawtooth waveform, thus to prevent damage to the batery from heating or from overcharging.
