  • Patent number: 6111506
Abstract: A method of making an improved security identification document includes the steps of forming a contactless communication insert unit by electrically connecting an integrated circuit including a microprocessor, a controller, a memory unit, a radio frequency input/output device and an antenna; disposing the contactless communication insert unit on a substrate and laminated to form a laminated substrate; supplying a first sheet of base material; supplying a second sheet of base material; disposing the second sheet of base material on top of the first sheet of base material and inserting the laminated substrate including the contactless communication insert unit between the first and second sheets of base material; and joining a third sheet of base material to the first and second sheets of base material having the laminated substrate disposed therebetween, the third sheet of base material containing printed text data located so as to be readable by humans.

  • Patent number: 6108636
Abstract: An improved luggage handling and reconciliation system includes a biometrics data input device for obtaining biometrics data from a holder of luggage and a luggage identification document operatively connected to the biometrics data input device for generating device a luggage identification document containing biometrics data obtained by the biometrics data input device. The luggage identification document and biometrics data contained therein is used to reconcile luggage for determining whether luggage can be loaded onto an aircraft after checking to make sure that the holder of the luggage has boarded the aircraft. The luggage identification document is also used to reconcile luggage at an arrival airport so that the biometrics data is used to identify a person as the authorized owner of the luggage by comparing biometrics data input by the person with biometrics data stored on the luggage identification document.

  • Patent number: 6041412
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for providing access to a secured data or area includes at least two secure data modules which contain security data and other information and which belong to a particular security scheme and a dual module reader for reading data and permissions instructions contained on the secure data modules. The two secure data modules include an enabling module and an interrogatable module. The interrogatable module and the enabling module communicate with each other via a dual module reader. Communication between the two modules is allowed as long as the two modules are members of the same security scheme. A scheme is defined by suitable proprietary encryption keys for enabling communication and data transfer between the two modules belonging to a common scheme and for preventing communication and data transfer between two modules belonging to different schemes.
