  • Patent number: 6503593
Abstract: Optical disc, e.g., CD-R, DVD, DVD-R, comprising a polymer substrate and a radiation-cured coating provided by curing a radiation-curable coating composition having a pH greater than or equal to 3 and comprising at least one acrylate monomer, and advantageously diacrylate monomers and oligomers and monomers having acrylate functionalities of from 1 to at least 3, wherein the optical disc exhibits jitter of no greater than about 35 ns after being subjected to an environment having a temperature of at least 80° C. and a relative humidity of at least 85% for a period of at least 96 hours.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 10, 2001
Date of Patent: January 7, 2003
    Assignee: DSM N.V.

  • Patent number: 5942302
Abstract: A composition suitable for use as a polymer layer disposed on a semi-reflective layer in an optical medium, such as an optical storage medium. The polymer layer includes an acidic component that promotes adhesion of the polymer layer to the semi-reflective layer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 23, 1996
Date of Patent: August 24, 1999
    Assignee: Imation Corp.
Inventors: Chau T. Ha, Wayne M. Hector, Cynthia J. Kwiecien
  • Patent number: 5609990
Abstract: An optical recording disk having a sealcoat layer provided on at least one surface of the disk, wherein the sealcoat layer is a cured composition obtained from ingredients comprising a radiation-curable component; a nonionic perfluoro surfactant; and a radiation curable silicone-containing compound. Optionally the sealcoat layer is a cured composition of ingredients further comprising an anticorrosion agent and photoinitiator.

  • Patent number: 5585201
Abstract: A radiation-curable composition that contains a radiation-curable component and a radiation-curable polydimethylsiloxane compound. The radiation-curable polydimethylsiloxane compound contains a polyoxyalkylene segment and is compatible with the radiation-curable component, so that the cured composition is relatively free from oranger-peel texture, haze, etc. Further, the cured composition provides improved frictional properties. The composition contains a significantly smaller amount of the polydimethylsiloxane than has been previously used. The composition is especially useful when applied to an optical recording disk.
