Patent number: 9564816Abstract: A power source capable of supplying power to operate electronics of a system is disclosed. In one example, the power source takes advantage of an electrical potential difference between primary and secondary grounds. The power source can reduce system cost and power consumption.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 2014Date of Patent: February 7, 2017Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: Chee K. Fong, Suet F. Tin, Perry S. Stultz

Patent number: 9235545Abstract: A communication system where first and second devices communicate concurrently and bidirectionally over a single wire and a ground. The second device can be a computing device having a powered component which requires a certain power output, for instance, and the first device may be a power supply unit. The second device provides a signal on a control line (the single wire) which is characterized by a frequency, pulse width, duty cycle and/or an amplitude which is associated with a message from the second device. The first device recognizes the message in the signal and invokes a corresponding function, such as by enabling a corresponding power supply. The power supply provides power to the second device via a separate power line. Further, the first device modifies the signal, without adding power, to provide a message from the first device, concurrent with the message from the second device.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2012Date of Patent: January 12, 2016Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Chee K. Fong, Suet Fong Tin, Harjit Singh, Peter Atkinson, Perry Stultz, Jeremy Braun, Duane M. Evans

Publication number: 20140036734Abstract: A communication system where first and second devices communicate concurrently and bidirectionally over a single wire, in addition to a ground. Patent number: 7679906Abstract: An external AC power adapter. The adapter includes a housing which, in one embodiment, defines an air inlet compartment, an air outlet compartment and a partially sealed electronics compartment containing electrical components for converting an AC input to a DC output. A blower generates an airflow within the electronics compartment for cooling the electrical components in the electronics compartment. Barriers are located in the air inlet compartment and the air outlet compartment to prevent liquid from entering the electronics compartment.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2007Date of Patent: March 16, 2010Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Chee K. Fong, Suet F. Tin, Vinicio Manfrini, J. David Egner, Michael Hiett, Harjit Singh

Patent number: 6396277Abstract: An apparatus for measuring ignition charge signals produced by coils of coil-on-plug devices of an internal combustion engine. A signal detector comprises an insulating substrate having a first conductive planar layer on a first side and a second conductive planar layer on a second side. The first layer is coupled to a signal wire and the second layer is coupled to a ground wire. When the signal detector is held in close proximity to the coil of the coil-on-plug, ignition signals generated by the coil and passing to the plug are detected. The detected signals may be coupled to a signal analyzer for display and analysis. The amplitude of the signal that is output by the signal detector may be adjusted to different coils having different output signal strengths by modifying the ratio of the surface areas of the first layer and the second layer.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1999Date of Patent: May 28, 2002Assignee: Snap-On Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Chee K. Fong, Robert R. Bryant, James M. Normile, Kenneth A. McQueeney, Timothy J. Spencer
