Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of manufacturing molecularly imprinted polymers for scarce target molecules that are made using surrogate molecules. Also disclosed herein are the molecularly imprinted polymers and their use in detecting the selected target molecules, particularly through the binding of a fluorescent surrogate molecule to the molecularly imprinted polymers that is then displaced from the molecularly imprinted polymer upon contact with the target molecule.
