The sterilant can be progesterone or its derivatives which can activate progesterone receptors. Such formulation may be achieved by using a biodegradable copolymer that releases progesterone for more than 10 days. The progesterone-containing implant can be injected intramuscularly, subcutaneously, or intraperitoneally.
