  • Patent number: 7972183
Abstract: A connector plug terminates a communication cable having a plurality of twisted pair conductors therein. The plug includes a conductor organizing sled, which includes structural features to minimize variations in conductor organization, as the conductors pass along the sled. By minimizing the variations as the conductors pass along the sled, technicians may assemble plugs having a relatively consistent level of crosstalk. The structural features of the organizing sled may include combinations of a ramp surface for a center pair, neck-down portions to cause consistent placement of stacked pairs, and crossing of stacked pairs to prevent a lower stacked pair from rising above a floor surface of the sled.

  • Publication number: 20100289394
Abstract: A cabinet includes a housing, a drawer, two rails, and two engaging members. The housing includes two side walls, a back wall, and a front opening. The drawer has a bottom surface and is disposed between the side walls. Each rail extends in a front-to-rear direction and has a lateral plate portion, a longitudinal top support face, a longitudinal limit face, a front end block, a connecting face, and a rail groove. The engaging members project downwardly from the bottom surface of the drawer in proximity to a rear end of the drawer, and are movable along the connecting face of one of the rails when the drawer slides on the top support face. The engaging members respectively have protrusions that engage the respective front end blocks when the drawer slides to front ends of the rails, thereby limiting the drawer from being released from the housing.

  • Patent number: 6402560
Abstract: A communication connector includes a housing with an opening for receiving a mating connector. First and second pairs of terminal contact wires are supported in the housing, and each pair forms a different signal path. The terminal contact wires have base portions, free ends, and intermediate co-planar contact portions that establish points of electrical contact with corresponding terminals of a mating connector. First and second pairs of elongated, parallel capacitor plates are fixed at corresponding free ends of the contact wires. The plates of each pair of capacitor plates capacitively couple an associated terminal contact wire of the one pair of contact wires, with an associated terminal contact wire of the other pair of contact wires. The two pairs of capacitor plates extend in a length direction that is substantially parallel to the plane of the contact portions of the terminal contact wires.

  • Patent number: 6325660
Abstract: A connector plug for interconnecting plurality of twisted pairs of wires in a cable has a body portion having a flared recess therein. A flared insert fits within the recess and has a top surface having first and second wire pair guiding channels and a bottom surface having third and fourth wire pair guiding channels extending from a cable entrance end to a contact end of the body portion. The insert has a channel defining cross-tail which is insertable into the end of the cable and the cable is crimped thereto by a crimping ring. A contact bearing contact base is mounted on the contact end of the body portion with the contacts immediately adjacent the end of the insert. Thus, the wires stay twisted from the cable to the contacts.

  • Patent number: 6311392
Abstract: In general, a cordage fixture and insertion tool provides a system and method of stabilizing wires of a cordage so that echo properties of telecommunication cords, created by use of the tool, are similar and may be effectively cancelled by a modular device to which the cord is attached. The tool comprises an elongated body having a longitudinal concave portion therein, which extends through the length of the tool. The width of the longitudinal concave portion is shaped in accordance with the size of the cord for which the tool is created. An elongated member extends from one end of the elongated body in a manner axially adjacent to the central axis of the longitudinal concave portion, and is capable of receiving a crimp ring, located on the cord so as to stabilize the cord during insertion of a plug subassembly into a housing.

  • Patent number: 6250949
Abstract: A modular communication plug for terminating communication cables has a housing having a connector end including a conductor alignment region having a plurality of parallel slots therein and a conductor organizing sled insertable into the housing. The sled is an elongated member having a connector end which fits within the conductor alignment region of the housing, and a cable termination end. A plurality of septa form channels or passages for twisted pairs of wires and lead to an array of parallel grooves at the connector end. The septa are insertable within the jacket of the cable, which is crimped thereto by means of a crimping ring. A split wedge collar surrounds the crimping ring and is, when in position, latched to the housing to hold the sled therewithin. A plurality of contact blades are insertable into the slots in the housing to make electrical contact with the wires in the grooves. The sled is provided with a cap or cover member for preventing the conductors in the sled from bellying up.

  • Patent number: 6109954
Abstract: A strain relief housing for use in a modular communication plug has a divider member dividing a central bore of the plug into four channels, each channel being adapted to contain two conductors from the cable being terminated. Septa members extend from the rear of the divider to the rear of the housing and are insertable into the cable so that separation and segregation of the conductors actually commences within the cable. A compression ring surrounds the cable and is insertable within the rear of the plug housing where it is compressed to clamp or anchor the cable.

  • Patent number: 6056586
Abstract: A communications cable anchoring member for use in a strain relief connector assembly is a compression ring which has an elongated body with front and rear faces and an axial bore extending between the faces. The bore forms a peripheral wall with the exterior of the body in which is an array of slots extending part of the distance between the faces. Alternate slots extend from opposite faces of the body. The exterior surface of the body is tapered to fit within the tapered bore of a strain relief plug of the connector, and latching members on the exterior surface latch the ring body to the plug.

  • Patent number: 6042427
Abstract: A communication plug that generates crosstalk that complements the compensating crosstalk in a legacy jack or connector. The communication plug includes a dielectric carrier on which a plurality of electrical conductors are disposed. Each conductor is configured to wrap around a first end of the carrier thereby forming a series of adjacent inductive loops. Complementary crosstalk is generated between the conductors as a result of the fields created from current flow through the inductive loops and can be fixed to a desired level by modifying certain engineerable parameters. The inductive loops are positioned in the nose or front region of the plug where the conductors engage the jack spring wires or terminals thus minimizing the propagation delay between the crosstalk signals generated in the plug and the crosstalk signals generated in the jack or connector.

  • Patent number: 6010353
Abstract: A communication plug for terminating a cable carrying a plurality of conductors. The communication plug includes a strain relief housing for receiving the cable and a jack interface housing for communication with a jack. Confined within the two housing components are a plurality of conductive members carried by a blade carrier. In a preferred embodiment, the jack interface housing segregates the conductive members in a substantially circular array largely conforming to the arrangement of the conductors in a round cable.

  • Patent number: 5989071
Abstract: A tunable blade structure for use in a communication plug terminating a cable carrying a plurality of conductors. One end of the blades is designed as an insulation displacement connector (IDC) for electrical communication with the conductors from the cable. The other end of the blades is designed as a jack contact region for electrical communication with jack springs. Between these two ends are three regions for manipulating the electrical characteristics of the blades: a capacitive coupling region, an inductive coupling region and an isolation region. By appropriately designing these three regions, electrical interference (i.e., crosstalk) between the conductors can be optimized.

  • Patent number: 5837380
Abstract: A substantially warp-free laminate polymeric film structure is obtained by a fabrication process in which the individual layers of polymeric film that are to be laminated together to form a card or similar structure are selected such that the mechanical properties of one layer or pair of layers are offset by those of another layer or layer pair wherein each polymeric film layer is bonded to its adjacent polymeric film layers by adhesive layers wherein the adhesive layers have a tack point temperature that is within 10.degree. C. of the glass transition temperature of said polymeric film layers. The properties of the layers which may be subject to this consideration include, for example, the layer thickness, tensile strength, elongation factor, shrinkage rate, and machine processing direction.
