  • Patent number: 10098049
Abstract: In some examples, a method in a core network communicatively connected with a first radio access network (RAN) comprising a first network element, and a second RAN comprising a second network element, includes receiving a first Non Access Stratum (NAS) message via the second network element from a User Equipment (UE), where the UE has, with the first network element, a selected IP traffic offload (SIPTO) PDN connection. The mobility management node detects that the UE is connected to the second network element that is different from the first network element that has a first identifying characteristic, where the detecting comprises determining that the first NAS message is received with a second identifying characteristic of the second network element different from the first identifying characteristic associated with the SIPTO PDN connection.

  • Patent number: 10021628
Abstract: Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, a network node of a first Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) receives a request from a user equipment (UE) for a service to be provided to the UE by the first PLMN, and sends a response to the UE indicating whether the request is accepted or rejected, wherein the response indicates to the UE whether the UE is allowed to repeat the request if the UE connects to a second PLMN that is an equivalent PLMN with the first PLMN.

  • Patent number: 10003963
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for transmitting information from a serving network element to a mobile terminal in a mobile communications network. The serving network element transmits indication indicating whether a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) via packet switched (PS) session is supported, to the mobile terminal, via an eNode B, during one of a tracking area updating (TAU) procedure and an attach procedure. A Voice Call Continuity (VCC) capability of the mobile terminal is received from the mobile terminal. It is determined whether or not to anchor a call based on the received VCC capability of the mobile terminal. The indication is determined based on a capability of the serving network element.

  • Publication number: 20180152980
Abstract: Technology for using an open mobile alliance (OMA) management object (MO) for congestion control in mobile networks is described. A novel type of OMA MO for application specific access control (ASAC) can include internet protocol (IP) flow descriptions that can be used to characterize applications with fine granularity. Priorities can be assigned to IP flows based on the IP flow descriptions. A user equipment (UE) can receive such an OMA MO and also receive application-barring information regarding a congestion level in a mobile network with which an application at the UE wishes to connect. The UE can have a connectivity manager (CM) that determines whether to allow the application to establish a connection with the mobile network based on the priority level of the application's associated IP flow and the application-barring information.

  • Publication number: 20170359706
Abstract: User Equipment (UE) may skip the Access Class Barring (ACB) procedure for specific services, such as MMTEL voice, MMTEL video, and SMS. In one implementation, NAS layer of a UE may: receive, from an upper layer relative to the NAS layer, a request for a particular service type that is being originated by the UE; receive an indication, from a Radio Resource Control (RRC) layer of the UE, that access to a cell, associated with the UE, is barred; and bypass the indication that access to the cell is barred, when the particular service type matches a predetermined set of service types. The bypassing may include: requesting that the RRC layer establish an RRC connection for the service request, and notifying the RRC layer that the request for the RRC connection corresponds to the particular service type.

  • Publication number: 20170257905
Abstract: A method, system and device are provided for managing LIPA and/or SIPTO connection releases when UE moves out of residential/enterprise network coverage in case service continuity is not supported for the LIPA/SIPTO PDN connection(s). To address problems caused by not providing service continuity for LIPA/SIPTO PDN connections, the PDN connection/PDP context created in the HeNB/HNB by the MME/SGSN includes context information related to the UE indicating whether such connection is a LIPA PDN connection PDN connection or not. In addition, each UE may be configured to reconnect or not reconnect to the PDN corresponding to a certain APN or service, depending on how the PDN connection was disconnected by the network.
