  • Patent number: 6264809
Abstract: One electrode is provided in association with the object to be coated, the other electrode. A pre-stretched ion-exchange membrane in a thin tubular form is sandwiched inbetween two nonconductive water permeable screen tubular housings. The assembly contains a supply line that provides a water way for the electrolyte to flow from the top of the device into a lower cap, then to the lower cap reservoir that allows stabilization and disbursement of electrolyte through the rifled housing Inertia developed through this defined pattern creates a swirling action that scrubs the impurities away from the anode, and to the top of the device to be carried out top. The location of the supply line is just inside the inner screen inserted through both the upper housing and lower cap. The tubular electrode is provided to the inside of membrane housing completing the inner portion of the waterway return chamber.

  • Patent number: 4527999
Abstract: A differential pore-collapsed separation membrane particularly useful as a gas-separation membrane and a method of preparing such differential pore-collapsed membrane, which method comprises treating an asymmetric membrane, while under one-sided constraint, with a treating solution comprising a volatile nonsolvent and a swelling agent and/or a solvent, and drying the treated membrane, to provide for the controlled, differential pore collapse of the small pores of the top skin of the membrane to a smaller pore-size distribution in the membrane generally less than about 10 Angstroms.

  • Patent number: 4322501
Abstract: A process is disclosed for quaternizing reactive substituent haloalkyl groups in hollow fiber polymer membranes wherein such haloalkyl groups are reacted with an amine quaternizing agent in the presence of an electrolyte compound and, preferably, in the presence of a cationic quaternary ammonium halide surfactant. In addition, there is disclosed a process of quaternizing the reactive haloalkyl groups in anisotropic hollow fiber polymer membranes by contacting and permeating a solution of an amine quaternizing agent from the surface of the membrane which is to be exposed to a dialysis feed solution.

  • Patent number: 4108765
Abstract: Methanol is separated from formaldehyde aqueous mixtures by contacting the aqueous mixture feed with a first surface of a polymeric membrane selectively permeable to the methanol over the formaldehyde or formaldehyde and water; while maintaining a second and opposite membrane surface at a lower chemical potential than the first membrane surface for the methanol permeating a portion of the methanol into and through the membrane, and withdrawing from the second membrane surface a mixture having a higher total concentration of methanol in relationship to the formaldehyde or formaldehyde and water than in the methanol, formaldehyde aqueous feed mixtures.
