  • Publication number: 20080055262
Abstract: A liquid crystal display includes a light source for emitting light, a first substrate, a second substrate parallel to and facing the first substrate, and a plurality of pixel units formed between the first substrate and the second substrate. At least one pixel unit comprises a reflecting element disposed on the first substrate for reflecting light from the light source, and a photo-sensing element, formed on the second substrate, for outputting a sensing parameter based on light reflected from the reflecting member. Each reflecting element is extended out of the first substrate and faces to one of the plurality of photo-sensing elements. A position of the force applied on the first substrate is determined by detecting a variation of the sensing parameter outputted by the photo-sensing element.

  • Publication number: 20080055267
Abstract: A liquid crystal display includes a source driver, a gate driver, a plurality of pixel units, a plurality of detecting circuits, and a decision unit. Each pixel unit includes a switch transistor and a liquid crystal capacitor. When turned on by a scan signal generated by the gate driver, the switch transistor conducts a data signal voltage generated by the source driver to the liquid crystal capacitor, to adjust alignment of liquid crystal molecules. Each detecting circuit is electrically connected to one pixel unit, and includes a first transistor, a second transistor, a third transistor and a sensor unit. The first transistor conducts a constant voltage to the sensor unit when turned on, and generates a dynamic voltage when turned off. Based on the dynamic voltage, the second transistor generates a dynamic current. The third transistor conducts the dynamic current to the decision unit when turned on.

  • Publication number: 20070290970
Abstract: A method for driving a normal black type liquid crystal display (LCD) includes driving the LCD by applying uncompensated source signals corresponding to gray levels; recording first optimized common signal voltages (Vcom-opt1) of common signals corresponding with the gray levels; adjusting the source signal to drive the LCD so second optimized common signal voltages (Vcom-opt2) of common signals corresponding with the gray levels conform to the following conditions: (1) when the gray level is lower than a predetermined gray level, the Vcom-opt2 exceeds a predetermined voltage of the common signal and the absolute difference between the Vcom-opt2 and the predetermined voltage is less than or equal to that between the Vcom-opt1 and the predetermined voltage; and (2) when the gray level exceeds the predetermined gray level, the absolute difference between the Vcom-opt2 and the predetermined voltage is less than or equal to that between the Vcom-opt1 and the predetermined voltage.

  • Publication number: 20070126965
Abstract: A pixel structure for a multi-domain vertical alignment liquid crystal display (MVA-LCD) is disclosed. The pixel structure includes a pixel array having a plurality of adjacently arranged sub-pixels; and a first substrate and a second substrate having, respectively, first and second means for controlling tilt angles of liquid crystal molecules between the first and second substrates. The first and second means are alternately disposed to define each of the sub-pixels into a plurality of different azimuthal angle domains. Moreover, each of the sub-pixels also is further defined into at least two different polar angle domains. The azimuthal angle domains and polar angle domains of two adjacent sub-pixels have a mirror-image arrangement.

  • Publication number: 20060262237
Abstract: A pixel structure electrically connected to a scan line and a data line, includes an active device, a first pixel electrode, a second pixel electrode, a capacitor coupling electrode and a charge releasing device. The active device is electrically connected to the scan line and the data line. The second pixel electrode is electrically isolated from the first pixel electrode. The capacitor coupling electrode is disposed under the second pixel electrode and electrically connected to the data line through the active device. The charge releasing device is electrically connected to the second pixel electrode. The above-described pixel structure is able to effectively solve the image sticking problem. In addition, further provides an active matrix substrate which is able to avoid the image sticking effect.

  • Publication number: 20060119757
Abstract: An electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection circuit and an ESD protection method applied in a liquid crystal display are provided. The ESD protection circuit comprises a first thin film transistor (TFT), a second TFT, a first diode and a second diode. The liquid crystal display has a signal line and a common electrode. The ESD protection method comprises the following steps. When a first electrostatic charge is generated on the signal line, the corresponding voltage of the first electrostatic charge enables the first diode to be conducted, so that the first electrostatic charge is discharged to the common electrode through the first TFT. When the second electrostatic charge is generate on common electrode, the corresponding voltage of the second electrostatic charge enables the second diode to be conducted, so that the second electrostatic charge is discharged to the signal line through the second TFT.
