    Abstract: A hologram disc reading and writing apparatus including a signal light source module, a beam splitter, a reference/reading light source, a reflector, and an optical reading head and a hologram disc reading apparatus are provided. A signal light beam emitted from the signal light source module is transmitted to a data region of a hologram disc through the beam splitter. The reference/reading light source, the signal light source module, and the optical reading head are disposed at the same side of the hologram disc. The reflector is disposed at the other side. A spherical wave light beam emitted from the reference/reading light source is transmitted through the data region and reflected by the reflector to form a phase conjugate light beam transmitted to and through the data region. The phase conjugate light beam is transformed to a data light beam transmitted to the optical reading head through the beam splitter.

    Abstract: A high frequency ballast for a fixed output high intensity discharge lamp is serially connected in order with a power input circuit, an electromagnetic wave interference filtering loop, a rectifying loop, a high power factor correction loop, a voltage-controlled oscillator ballast driver and a load loop, wherein the voltage-controlled oscillator ballast driver is connected with an ignition sequence control logic loop by a built-in voltage oscillator, and a half-bridge driving loop receives power transmitted by the high power factor correction loop and then converts into a steady power output by the ignition sequence control logic loop. When a lamp cannot start successfully, it can start by itself repeatedly through a restart triggering loop; and after the lamp has started, an operational amplifier circuit is used to maintain an original frequency which sets the power, so as to adjust automatically according to the lamps of various frequencies.

    Abstract: An image processing and controlling system is provided in the present invention. In addition to adjusting the image displaying modes according to the ergonomic look-up table, the present invention is further capable of adjusting the weighting value with respect to each image characteristic value of an initial image according to lighting characteristics of an ambient light system such that a display unit can provide the most comfortable viewing conditions and the best image quality under different ambient lighting characteristics. In another embodiment, the present invention further functions to control the ambient light system according to the image characteristics of the weighted output image. By means of the foregoing dual controlling ways, the image processing and controlling system may provide appropriate output images corresponding to different viewing scenario and conforming to the requirement of output quality.

    Abstract: A method is adapted for compressing an image data block, and includes the steps of: (a) subjecting the image data block to discrete cosine transformation so as to generate discrete cosine transform data; (b) quantizing the discrete cosine transform data in accordance with a quantizer matrix that consists of an array of quantizing coefficients so as to generate quantized data; (c) encoding the quantized data using an entropy coding algorithm so as to generate an encoded bitstream; and (d) when the length of the encoded bitstream does not fall within a predetermined range, adjusting the quantizing coefficients in the quantizer matrix and repeating steps (b) and (c) until the length of the encoded bitstream falls within the predetermined range.
