  • Patent number: 6838637
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for deflashing integrated circuit (IC) packages by laser irradiation. The method and apparatus include two lasers scanning flash area for performing deflashing operation. CO2 laser is used to remove top layer of flash and YAG laser is used to remove the thin layer of flash remained after CO2 laser deflashing. CO2 laser deflashing and following YAG laser deflashing can effectively remove flash and avoid damage of heat sinks as well as leads and bars in the IC packages.

  • Publication number: 20040169870
Abstract: A scanning or copying system can include imaging elements and one or more system processors that are programmed or adapted to perform image processing methods and algorithms on image data, and in some instances, to enhance the image. Image data is acquired using imaging elements. Some imaging elements may have overlapping or rotated fields of view or employ differing resolutions. For each imaging element, its output is recombined together with the output of one or more other imaging elements. To perform the recombination, the system can extract features in an overlapping region and match these features in multiple images. In some instances, the features matched can be edges. Alternatively, the recombination can be performed by positioning each subimage with respect to a larger image through image matching and location techniques. Parameters from the recombined image can be extracted and these parameters can be used to correct for geometrical and spatial distortions and thereby enhance the image.

  • Patent number: 6764162
Abstract: An improved shingle mask is provided for use on ink jet printers which use multi-pass printing (shingling) to form bitmap images. The shingle mask is derived from a shingle mask density distribution which exhibits a substantially trapezoidal shape; the shingle mask density distribution is derived from an accumulated shingle mask distribution (also referred to as a “banding profile”) having an overall shape of a plateau portion and a substantially smooth decreasing portion, which reduces the number of drops to be printed along the outermost edges of the mask on each swath. This shape reduces banding effects by effectively increasing a number of printed-density bands which are decreased in size, while at the same time not increasing the number of printhead passes over a given area on the print media (which otherwise would negatively impact printed throughput).

  • Publication number: 20040124184
Abstract: A method and apparatus for directly forming periodic structures on a substrate by laser irradiation comprises directing a linearly polarized laser beam onto a first location of the substrate; irradiating the substrate for a sustained duration using the linearly polarized laser beam for melting the substrate at the first location to induce a surface wave thereon; the melted substrate having a plurality of ridges corresponding to the wavelengths of the surface wave. The linearly polarized laser beam scans the substrate along a first path to propagate the surface wave on the substrate; and thereafter, substrate is cooled down following scanning of the linearly polarized laser for solidifying the plurality of ridges to form a first group of periodic structure on the substrate. Periodic structures formed according to the invention may be optical gratings such as diffraction or reflective gratings.

  • Patent number: 6753500
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for cutting a substrate using laser irradiation. A laser beam is scanned over a substrate. The beam ablates a first layer of the substrate. The beam is then refocused onto the newly revealed second layer and a further pass is performed. The process is repeated until complete separation occurs. The method and apparatus are particularly suitable for singulation of IC packages.

  • Publication number: 20040056867
Abstract: A gamut mapping algorithm especially adapted for printing business and presentation graphics with highly chromatic colors. To perform gamut mapping, gamut triangles corresponding to an input gamut and output gamut are defined and used to scale the lightness and chroma of input colors. The rescaled input colors are then mapped to the output triangle along lines of constant chroma. The chroma of the remapped colors is enhanced by moving the remapped colors toward the apex of the output gamut triangle along a line passing through the remapped color and the apex of the output gamut triangle.

  • Patent number: 5713041
Abstract: A computer system is described. The computer system includes a bus, a CPU coupled to the bus, and a memory coupled to the bus. A peripheral device is coupled to the bus for performing a predefined peripheral operation. A logic is coupled to the bus and the peripheral device for causing the CPU to be interrupted to control the peripheral device for the peripheral operation when the logic receives a request for the peripheral operation. The logic does not control the peripheral device to perform the peripheral operation. The peripheral operation of the peripheral device is only controlled by the CPU. The request may be generated by a software program running on the CPU. The request may also be generated by the peripheral device. Although the CPU is controlling the peripheral operation, the existing peripheral controller-based application software can still be used. A method for controlling the peripheral device for the peripheral operation is also described.

  • Patent number: 5664198
Abstract: A system for accessing attribute memory on a card using the interrupt capability of a microcontroller on the PCMCIA card intended to perform I/O functions for the host. The attribute memory interfaces directly with the microcontroller. A PLD is connected between the host bus and the microcontroller decodes the host's bus signals and generates an interrupt signal when it detects a request for access to the attribute memory which signal is supplied to the microcontroller. Upon receipt of the interrupt signal, the microcontroller runs a special routine that accesses attribute memory and supplies the results to the host. The PCMCIA card has a configured state in which the host has read the configuration information from attribute memory and has allocated necessary system resources. The PCMCIA card is in an unconfigured state if the foregoing has not been accomplished.

  • Patent number: 5477418
Abstract: A connector system for an add in PC card for supplying network communications functions to a host computer wherein the connector to the network is a RJ type universal jack consisting of a socket and plug. A cavity in the card is formed by an opening in the short dimension of the frame opposite the 68 position connector and the top and bottom covers. A carriage is mounted in the cavity so that it can slide in and out and occupy at least two positions. The carriage consists of a socket portion for making contact with the RJ type plug and a support and contact portion that mechanically supports the carriage within the card and also makes the electrical contact between the carriage and the card. In the first of the two positions, substantially all of the carriage is within the cavity. In the second of the two positions, the socket portion of the carriage is outside of the cavity. In this position, the socket is electrically connected to the printed circuit board.

  • Patent number: 5473552
Abstract: A data transmission system for a host computer includes a converter coupled to the host computer and an external data transmission network for converting signals from one form into another, and an isolation circuit for electrically isolating the host computer from the data transmission network. The isolation circuit is placed between the host computer and the converter such that the host computer is electrically isolated from the data transmission network when data transmission is conducted between the host computer and the data transmission network. The isolation circuit digitally isolates the host computer from the external data transmission network such that noise and signal distortion generated by the isolation circuit do not affect the data transmission between the host computer and the data transmission network.
