  • Patent number: 6577478
Abstract: An overload circuit interrupter (OLCI), and a circuit breaker with the same, which diminish erroneous operation from being caused by a dimmer. The OLCI detects overload in an AC electrical wiring system and produces an overload trip signal that shuts the AC source off. The OLCI includes a current transformer that produces the overload voltage in accordance with current variations in phase and neutral conductors. The OLCI also includes a rectifier for rectifying of the overload voltage, a level controller for limiting the rectified overload voltage, an integrator for charging the limited overload voltage and for providing overload indicative signal, and a comparator. The comparator compares the overload indicative signal with a reference overload voltage and produces the overload trip signal that shuts the AC source off. The circuit breaker may further include an arc fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) and a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI).

  • Patent number: 6556397
Abstract: A device for detecting arc fault which distinguishes harmful arc from the signal generated by operation of a dimmer and start of electronic devices. Signals outputted from a current transformer is attenuated by a resistor which is coupled in parallel to the current transformer. By the attenuation of the resistor, the signal generated by the operation of a dimmer is not determined to be arc in arc determining part. Harmful arc and the signal generated by the start of the electronic device are distinguished by integrating both signals. As the harmful arc lasts for a long time, large signals are integrated in an integrator while the signal generated by the start of electronic device does not last for a long time.

  • Patent number: 6552884
Abstract: A circuit breaker which displays electronically state of the circuit breaker and the cause of the disconnection which enables users to determine whether to reconnect a conductor which connects a source and a load in power distribution system. An arc display part is coupled to an arc fault detector, a ground display part is coupled to a ground fault detector and an overload display part is coupled to an overload detector. If arc fault occurs, the arc fault detector generates a trip signal and the trip signal is provided to the arc display part. As the trip signal from the arc fault detector is not provided to the ground display part and the overload display part, users can determine that arc fault has occurred by the lighting of the arc display part.

  • Patent number: 6532139
Abstract: A circuit breaker for shutting off an AC electrical source from a phase wire and a neutral wire has the ability to detect an arc fault, ground fault and overload. The circuit breaker includes an arc fault circuit interrupter (AFCI), a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI), an overload circuit interrupter (OLCI), and trip circuitry. The AFCI, the GFCI and the OLCI are crossed between the phase wire and the neutral wire of the AC power line and detect the arc fault, ground fault and overload respectively. The trip circuitry is used for shutting off the AC source from the circuit breaker when at least one of the arc fault, ground fault and overload occurs. The circuit breaker is shut when the level of at least one of an arc fault trip signal, ground fault trip signal and overload trip signal is larger than a specified reference trip level.

  • Publication number: 20020011908
Abstract: A circuit breaker for interrupting an electric circuit in detection of an overcurrent exceeding a rated value, said circuit breaker comprising: detection means for detecting the flow of an overcurrent exceeding a predetermined rated value in said electric circuit from the bending of a bimetal, and creating a detection signal; control means for sending an tripping signal in response to the detection signal from said detection means; and trip means being electro-magnetically operated in response to the tripping signal from said control means to interrupt said electric circuit. According to the circuit breaker, fabrication of the bimetal and the armature is easy and productivity in fabrication of the circuit breaker is increased. Also, a precise and rapid tripping can be carried out when overcurrents takes place. Furthermore, the time required for the time-lag tripping is reduced due to the rapid tripping and thus the degradation of the covering material can be reduced.
