The method comprises: providing a user data entry interface; receiving a plurality of data values, each into a data field of the interface, wherein the plurality of data fields comprise a specification for the item and each data field of the specification describes an attribute of the item, and storing the specification into a database on a computer system. The system includes a data store for item specification data provided on a host computer coupled to a network; and a data input toolset comprising at least an item type manager and an item specification manager.

Abstract: The system of method for building a database for the design and execution of projects is described. This system includes a host computer system in data communication with a central database and at least first and second databases. The central data base stores information relating to the design and execution of the project predetermined to be important to one or more project team members. The first and second databases are in communication with first and second computer systems which may be remotely located from each other and which execute standard industry software tools. The host computer system is configured to monitor a plurality of transactions to the first database. Each of the plurality of transactions stores data in the first database. The monitoring includes comparing the plurality of a transaction against a predetermined transaction.

The system includes a data input and supplement toolset including and including at least one of an item procurement system, a cost management system, a project management system, and an information collection system. Each system includes a database interface allowing the system to retrieve, use and modify data subject to permissions granted by project managers.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for linking computer aided design (CAD) elements with non-graphical information within a database. In one embodiment of the method the database receives and stores first CAD element data generated by a first computer system in data communication with the database. This first CAD element data represents a first CAD element displayable on a monitor of a computer system such as a CAD computer system. Thereafter, a link is created in the database between the stored first CAD element data and one of a plurality of component specifications stored in the database. Each of the plurality of component specifications comprises non-graphical descriptive data that may describe a component of a construction project. In one embodiment, the first computer system is coupled to the database via the Internet. In another embodiment, each of the component specifications include at least one database object.
