Abstract: The present invention generally relates to mobile games played on a mobile device such as a phone, tablet or laptop that allows businesses to offer promotional rewards based on the player's physical presence, determined e.g. by GPS, or a based on a player's actions, such as purchasing a product or participation in an activity offered at the location of the business. In particular, embodiments of the present invention relate to a system, method and computer program product that allows business owners to offer bitcoin or digital currency to customers through a treasure hunting type game app or via a game website. In certain embodiments, the player can determine the presence of bitcoins or other rewards at a certain location by utilizing the mobile device as a detection tool to provide proximity- or location-based alerts or clues.
