  • Patent number: 6140531
Abstract: Describes a method of producing N-1-alkenyl carbonylamino compounds represented by the following general formula I, ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is the residue of an active hydrogen functional material, n is a number from 1 to a number equal to the number of active hydrogen groups of said active hydrogen functional material, X is selected from O, S and N(R.sub.5), R.sub.5 being hydrogen, hydrocarbyl, or R.sub.5 and R.sub.1 may together form a cyclic ring, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are each independently selected from hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl and C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkenyl.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 29, 1999
Date of Patent: October 31, 2000
    Assignee: PPG Industries Ohio, Inc.
Inventors: Cheruthur Govindan, John M. Pascone
  • Patent number: 5739365
Abstract: A method is disclosed for preparing ammonium hydroxyalkyl sulfonate by a process of reacting ammonium bisulfite and alkylene oxide wherein the pH is maintained at a relatively low value throughout most of the time of reaction of ammonium bisulfite and alkylene oxide in order to minimize the quantity of impurities, e.g. alkylene glycol and alkanolamine, in the ammonium hydroxyalkyl sulfonate. Ammonium alkanoyl alkyl sulfonates prepared by reacting such ammonium hydroxyalkyl sulfonates with fatty acids form aqueous solutions which are clear at ambient temperatures, and thus are useful as surfactants in clear liquid products.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 28, 1995
Date of Patent: April 14, 1998
    Assignee: PPG Industries, Inc.
Inventors: Robert G. Briody, Amy E. Doty, Cheruthur Govindan, Louis J. Nehmsmann, Alan E. Wang
  • Patent number: 5493031
Abstract: N-hydroxysuccinimide monohydrate is precipitated from an aqueous solution of N-hydroxysuccinimide. N-hydroxysuccinimide monohydrate is a new compound that can be used to produce anhydrous N-hydroxysuccinimide which is substantially pure. It can also be used as a substitute for N-hydroxysuccinimide when the presence of water is not detrimental.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 16, 1994
Date of Patent: February 20, 1996
    Assignee: PPG Industries, Inc.
    Inventor: Cheruthur Govindan
  • Patent number: 5426190
Abstract: Acylated derivatives of N-hydroxysuccinimide are produced from succinic anhydride, hydroxylamine, and acylating agent without purification of the intermediate N-hydroxysuccinimide.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 16, 1994
Date of Patent: June 20, 1995
    Assignee: PPG Industries, Inc.
Inventors: Cheruthur Govindan, Suresh B. Damle
  • Patent number: 5370933
Abstract: Disclosed is a soil release composition for application to or finishing on polyester textile that is heat set at a temperature of 375.degree. F. (191.degree. C.) or higher, said composition comprising a non-fiber forming polyester-polyether copolymer and an antioxidantly effective amount of an acid catalyzed phenol-formaldehyde condensation product of the Novolak type.
