  • Patent number: 4493925
Abstract: Rubber compositions are shown comprising diene rubber and salts of hydroxymethylsulfinic acid which exhibit improved green strength and/or tack properties. Treatment of diene rubber above 130.degree. C. with the same salts is shown to be effective in obtaining rubber compositions of improved properties.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 20, 1982
Date of Patent: January 15, 1985
    Assignee: Monsanto Company
    Inventor: Chester D. Trivette, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4434266
Abstract: Diene rubber is treated with a maleic acid half ester, optionally in the presence of sulfur or an organic sulfur compound capable of generating a thiyl radical at an appropriate temperature (above 130.degree. C.) for a time sufficient to increase the green strength or tack of the diene rubber, but insufficient to decrease its tack. The treated diene rubber exhibits improved fabricability in the production of rubber products.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 23, 1982
Date of Patent: February 28, 1984
    Assignee: Monsanto Company
    Inventor: Chester D. Trivette, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4433114
Abstract: Improved tack, green strength or non-black filler interaction capability are realized in a treated diene rubber. The method of treating diene rubber to achieve the improvements is shown, together with a composition in which maleamic acid or derivatives of maleamic acid are combined with sulfur or an organic sulfur compound capable of generating a thiyl radical.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 20, 1982
Date of Patent: February 21, 1984
    Assignee: Monsanto Company
Inventors: Aubert Y. Coran, Chester D. Trivette, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4410656
Abstract: The method of masticating diene rubber in the presence of maleic acid or maleic anhydride together with sulfur or an organic sulfur compound capable of generating a thiyl radical is shown.Improved tack, green strength or both are realized in the treated diene rubber.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 3, 1982
Date of Patent: October 18, 1983
    Assignee: Monsanto Company
Inventors: Aubert Y. Coran, Charles P. Rader, Chester D. Trivette, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4102868
Abstract: A process for preparing segmented polyester-urethane polymers and polymers made by the process are described.Organic solvents are not required, and the process minimizes randomization resulting from ester interchange. The polymers resulting from the process exhibit generally low hysteresis over a wide temperature range, depending on the composition, and are suitable for tires, hoses, belts, and gaskets. Molding by extrusion, injection and compression techniques can be employed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 16, 1976
Date of Patent: July 25, 1978
    Assignee: Monsanto Company
Inventors: Ralph A. Genetti, Chester D. Trivette, Jr.
  • Patent number: 3969349
Abstract: Triazine sulfides of the formula ##EQU1## in which Y is ##EQU2## or ##EQU3## and Z is ##EQU4## or Cl, are improved accelerators and vulcanizing agents for the vulcanization of rubber.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 8, 1975
Date of Patent: July 13, 1976
    Assignee: Monsanto Company
