Abstract: A robotic garden tool includes at least one sensor configured to generate signals associated with an object within an operating area. A first electronic processor of the robotic garden tool receives, from the at least one sensor, an obstacle signal associated with an obstacle located within the operating area. The first electronic processor determines a first location of the robotic garden tool at a time corresponding to when the first electronic processor received the obstacle signal. The first electronic processor determines a second location of the obstacle based on the obstacle signal and the first location of the garden tool. The first electronic processor generates mapping information of the operating area that includes a virtual boundary based on the second location of the obstacle. The first electronic processor controls the robotic garden tool in the operating area to remain outside of the virtual boundary based on the mapping information.

Abstract: An external device for use with one or more robotic tools, the external device including a display and an electronic processor, where when an initiate setup button is selected by a first user input, the processor is configured to send a signal to the first robotic garden tool to travel from a dock and along a perimeter of an operating area. When the add start point button is selected by a second user input, the processor is configured to retrieve a first position of the first robotic garden tool, the first position being indicative of a first start point remote of the dock, and where the first robotic garden tool is configured to return to the dock after traveling along the perimeter and to communicate a calculated boundary length based on the data gathered by the odometry unit to the processor.

Abstract: An external device that may include a display and a device network interface configured to allow the external device to wirelessly communicate with one or more robotic garden tools. The external device may be configured to display a scheduling screen on the display. The scheduling screen may include a first display area including a calendar that includes a plurality of time blocks. Each time block may represent a time period during which a first robotic garden tool is scheduled to operate. The scheduling screen may include a second display area including first scheduling information about a selected time block. The first scheduling information and the selected time block may be editable via user inputs. The user inputs change the scheduling information or the time block, and the external device also correspondingly changes the other of the scheduling information or the time block in response to the user inputs.

Abstract: A communication system may include an external device and a robotic garden tool. The external device electronic processor may be configured to retrieve calendar information associated with a location that includes a lawn, and analyze, using at least one of natural language processing and word recognition, the calendar information to extract first information related to use of the lawn at one or more time periods. The external device may be further configured to generate scheduling information for the robotic garden tool based on the first information, and transmit the scheduling information to the robotic garden tool. The robotic garden tool may be configured to receive the scheduling information from the external device, and control operation of the at least one wheel motor to control movement of the robotic garden tool in accordance with the scheduling information.
