  • Patent number: 7429345
Abstract: A microstructured assembly including a barrier portions and land portions is described. The microstructures have alternating barrier portions and land portions that have barrier surfaces and land surfaces, respectively. Each barrier surface and land surface is connected by curved surface, which is part of a curved portion. The curved surface and the land surface are substantially continuous.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 9, 2005
Date of Patent: September 30, 2008
    Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties Company
    Inventor: Raymond Chi-Hing Chiu

  • Patent number: 7033534
Abstract: In a method of making a microstructured assembly, a substantially uniform coating of a curable material is formed on a substrate with the coating defining a leading edge. The coating is contacted with a mold starting at the leading edge to form in the curable material a plurality of barrier regions connected by intervening land regions. The curable material is cured and the mold is removed. Optionally, the coating includes a binder. Such a coating can optionally be debinded. In addition, the coating can be fired to form ceramic microstructures.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 9, 2001
Date of Patent: April 25, 2006
    Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties Company
Inventors: Raymond Chi-Hing Chiu, Kenneth Robert Dillon
  • Patent number: 6699927
Abstract: A molding composition is provided that includes an inorganic component, an organic binder component, and a debinding catalyst. The molding composition is capable of lowering the sintering temperature, for example, when the molding composition is used to make ceramic microstructures such as barrier ribs for plasma display panels.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 28, 2001
Date of Patent: March 2, 2004
    Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties Company
